My Little Pony: The Past, Present, and Future – The Tale of Rainbow Dash – A Hearths Warming Carol

FEB. 22, 2014. ENJOY!

It was that time of year again! It was time that ponies put up decorations. It was time that foals received gifts from that jolly Santa, unaware that it was really their parents. It was also time that some stallions and colts got to show their special somepony just how lucky they are to have her. Yes, it was Hearths Warming.

To Rainbow Dash, it was a distraction. A distraction from her flying. In her mind, she had to practice her flying every single day, and the low temperatures kept her from doing that. She also didn't see the point of getting all worked up about winter. "Why would you be happy about the freezing cold?" She would always say.

On December 21 of one Hearths Warming, at around 6:00, she was reading a book on her bed. YES, A BOOK. But don't worry, it wasn't a chapter book, it was a picture book. Besides, she didn't read very well; because she didn't read a lot. She never had time.

The book was about Hearths Warming. She chose this book out of the library because she wanted to find the fascination with the holiday. As she flipped through page after page, barely making out the words, she didn't find anything to celebrate. It was just boring facts! It was so boring that Dash almost fell asleep.

Soon, she was finished with the small book. She had learned absolutely nothing from it. What a waste of time, she thought.

She groaned, and tossed the book away. "I still don't get it!" She said out loud. "What's so great?"

She looked around her room. It was a nice room, with a bed, a dresser, and a lamp which supplied a flickering, dim light to brighten the room. Her bedroom window was open, letting a cool breeze make its way into the house. The curtains which decorated the window danced about, creating an eerie setting.

Dash sighed hopelessly.

She shuffled out of her bed, slowly made her way to the window, and peered out. She couldn't see anything out there but snow. "Snow…"Dash thought, smiling. Although she hated Hearths Warming, she liked snow. She thought it was pretty. Beautiful, in fact. She imagined it to be a soft blanket draped over Equestria, allowing the nation to hibernate.

"Hibernate.." She said. She wished she could hibernate, to just rest until the dreadful winter was over.

But it didn't work like that.

Nothing was that easy. That's what she had learned over the past years.

Dash lived alone, learned how to survive on her own, and learned how to get her way. She was convinced that she didn't need anypony else. She had herself. That's all she needed. Her parents died when she was 3, and she somehow survived. "My parents dying is proof that I can handle everything on my own." Was her reply when somepony asked her how she was still alive.

So, yeah, she was one tough cookie.

But little did she know that her opinion for Hearths Warming would soon change…..
