Disclaimer: I own nothing that sprang from the mind of Stephen Sondheim et all. And I make no profit.
Spoilers: Movie
Continuity: around 'God, That's Good!'
Summary: A bit of a "missing" song from Mrs. Lovett's catalogue.
Completed: April 23, 2003
Notes: I'm not really sure what this is, other than something nagging at my brain. It's something of a pseudo-song. But I must state: I have no musical talent.
Mrs. Lovett watches Sweeney Todd from across the room. Yet again, he's ignoring her presence to polishing his pristine blades under the watchful eyes of Lucy and Johanna, from their fading photos.
Her frustration, as the spurned lover, mounts. He never does see her…
I'll never be…
beautiful and blonde
or faint when something's wrong.
I'll never have
her teenie, tiny waist
or pace around this place
with a fake smile on my face.
Don't you see, Mr. T?
I'll never be
your Lucy
Never wanted to be
your Lucy
Won't you forget
your Lucy
she's gone…
Poor dear.
I never will…
fill her shoes
or take her space.
I never was
the cause of all this mess,
only tended to your sins.
(Still, Nellie never wins…)
Don't you see, Sweeney?
I'll never be
your Lucy
Never wanted to be
your Lucy
Won't you forget
your Lucy
she's gone…
Lost to you.
I've never
tasted poison's kiss,
or let the neighbours take a piss.
I've never done
what she won't do
for a pence…
I've said too much.
Don't you see, her Benny?
I'll never be
your Lucy
Never wanted to be
your Lucy
Won't you forget
your Lucy
she's gone…
Dead, and gone.
I've always been
your pet
since we met, my love.
I'll always be…
Oh, just once, by the sea,
than you'd really know, my love.
Maybe even care for me.
If you'd seen me, Sweeney.
Really see me, Sweeney.
Oh, look at me, Sweeney.
Won't you, look at me…
"What?" he looks up at her, a sneer curling his lips. He was sure he heard something, in the background.
"Nothing dear," she pats him on the shoulder, "I'll just go about fetching dinner."
