When she let herself into his apartment that night, she never meant for anything to happen. The key was a Gravedigger reassurance that she never intended to use. Her intentions must've been murky, for something definitely did occur, a something that forever changed the hidden dynamic between the two partners for eternity.
After knocking three times, she let herself in, turning the unusually cool imitation brass key in the lock, the sound of scraping metal against metal attacking her thoughts.
Swinging in the door, she realized why her attempted entry had gone mute. Sinatra? And he stood there, frying up something with a monotonously delicious smell.
"Booth?" she questioned, and it was then that he spun around, recovering from his momentary loss of sniper-like senses.
"Bones?" and he too was inquisitive, but hid it swiftly. "Do we have a case?" he cracked a smile.
"We need to discuss some things." his brow wrinkled, his mental silence accented by the stereo's soft crooning and the click of his front door as she pushed it shut.
"Can we sit?" she looked nervous, and as Booth turned off the stove, he noticed she was shaking slightly.
She began, "Booth, I have always been a rational woman." Brennan paused, backtracking and starting over as her voice faltered. "Sweets is correct in mentioning that we have a relationship that is platonic. However, I feel that…that…thattheremaybemore." The last bit came out fast, squeezed out and replaced with deep inhalation. Her hands fiddled with some international necklace, her pale eyes focused on his deep irises.
"Bones…"
"I'm sorry Booth, I just feel it needed to be said." She rose, halfway to the door when his saving word came.
"Wait." He was behind her now, his breath mingling with her earthy scent and auburn waves. "Temperance." And her defenses tumbled down, suddenly her heels were off, her bare feet against his. And her mouth against his, her body, hands, and hips were all blissfully against his well defined features. His fingers intertwined her hair, her hands found there way into his back pockets.
And he pulled away.
"I just thought that needed to be done."
