Chapter 1. Unexpected in the Expected
Selene
It had been a year since The-Boy-Who-Lived made his comeback into the wizarding world. Tales of his little adventures in his first year at Hogwarts had scaled far and wide, courtesy to his fellow schoolmates. For eleven-year-old Selene Starling, life couldn't get any more exciting. She would finally get to meet the infamous Harry Potter, and may even share the same House table or Common Room with him. Gryffindor. The name was enough to get her shaking with excitement. Did she have the qualities? Both her mother and sister were Gryffindors and even though her father was a Hufflepuff, it didn't necessarily state she should follow suit.
Goodbyes weren't really her forte, and honestly, she couldn't care any less about leaving home for an adventure. Perhaps she had some Gryffindor in her veins after all. The final whistle made her jump, nose flaring in embarrassment, having spaced out while being crushed in the stuffy corridor. Finding a compartment should be her priority, but her inquisitive hazel eyes couldn't help darting around for a certain lightning shaped scar. Or a messy black head for that matter. Little did she know that twelve-year-old Harry and Ron were busy trying to get Ford Anglia to fly. After what seemed like the end of the train (which sadly wasn't), Selene settled into an almost empty compartment, much to her distaste. Pouting childishly, she sighed heavily, in hopes of calming down. She wanted to make friends, preferably Gryffindors or Harry Potter himself, but all she got was a quiet Slytherin girl gazing distantly out of the window. Every breath the girl too screamed unapproachable. Selene was just contemplating whether she should even care to initiate a conversation with an unwilling participant, when the door burst open and a gang of mean-looking Slytherin girls trudged inside, throwing the first year the nastiest look possible on their faces.
"Thanks for saving us seats Daphne." A tall grubby-looking girl settled beside 'Daphne' with an audible thump.
Daphne merely took seconds to nod at the girl before turning back to the window. Talk about weird.
"And who's this chipmunk?" a rather pug-faced Slytherin raised her dark eyebrows haughtily at Selene. Look who's talking. "Anyways, scurry off now, midget. The compartment is ours."
Selene blinked, not quite used to the hostile tone. Dark eyes narrowed like a stray cat in a dark alley, her small mouth scrunched into a frown at a lack of response from her.
"Didn't you hear?" the girl approached her with a menacing look, a hand already tucked inside her robe, probably groping her wand. Her tone had dropped an octave, which made her look twice as intimidating. "Looks like you're asking me to do the honors."
What mere seconds she had before being thrown out literally, Selene could only flail around for cover. Her trunk falling mere centimeters from her foot. Bad at aiming, it would seem. The girl smirked as she slammed the door shut. Talk about dramatic. Hastily looking around for a sign of unwanted onlookers, Selene got up on her shaking legs, brushing her brand new turquoise skirt. At least her trunk was in one piece. With one last scowl at the closed door, she trudged forward, hoping for a better accommodation.
A pair of identical heads turned synchronously as soon as she peeked in. Red hairs. Freckled faces. Grins that could possibly vouch for a toothpaste advertisement. There's no turning back now, is it? With a polite smile, Selene shuffled inside, dragging her loaded trunk. A smaller boy with dreadlocks she had failed to notice earlier was lounging casually by the window. Stray wrappers already filled up most of the seat. But what drew her in to stay was the fact that they were Gryffindors. They would know where Harry Potter was. Maybe if she got friendly, they'd even introduce her.
Whoosh!
No sooner had Selene sat down, an embarrassingly yet annoyingly familiar sound of blown up air went out. Cheeks flaming, she stared horror-struck at the three boys now, wanting nothing more than to evaporate along with the horrible stinking gas that suddenly choked the whole compartment. Somebody opened the door and groans and curses followed the "ewws" and "ughs". It really wasn't her, but Selene had no proof and the sound had come from her direction. Amongst the string of curses, a trill of laughter broke through. Not to mention a familiar laugh.
"Stink pellets on a first year, let alone my baby sister? Seriously Fred, any of these days you're going to give the Slytherins a run for their money."
Hazel eyes narrowed to slits, Selene scowled at Aria leaning casually against the doorframe. She was already dressed in her Gryffindor robes, her caramel ponytail bobbing slightly at the nape.
The three boys snorted.
"Ah, the handiwork of Fate." One of the twins said sagely.
"And sisters finally reunite…all thanks to my stink pellets." The other twin, Fred, she assumed piped in after his brother. Grrrr… All Selene wanted was to rip their flamboyant hairs off and see if they could keep grinning like madmen.
"Did you see Angelina? I was about to go look for her when this-" the boy with dreadlocks gestured his surroundings. "-happened."
Aria chuckled with a playful look dancing in her jade green eyes. "Do we still have to wonder why? Honestly Jordan, if you're not making a move, step aside for others to try their chance." Turning to Selene, her look softened. "I've been looking for you."
"Surprise, then." Selene muttered glumly. She was still a little too mad for being made a laughing stock. She crossed doorstep, frowning at Aria shaking head at her. Just who does she think she is?
With all the hope left and her mangled pride, Selene peeked in to another randomly chosen compartment. She even gave up her expectations of coming crossing paths with The-Boy-Who-Lived. Curious eyes. Blue robes. And all boys. Just great. Did it kill Fate to introduce her to-be best friend (who would naturally be a girl). She noticed a first year, with tousled chocolate brown hair, the tuft sticking out elegantly over his right eyebrow.
"Excuse me."
Selene jumped slightly at such a velvety voice. Craning her neck, she expected a whimsy gay-ish person with a bright smile. Instead a rather tall copper haired boy loomed over her with a light frown hinting across the forehead. Selene usually wasn't the one to be intimidated by looks itself, but due to certain incidents and not to mention his rather oppressive aura she felt shrink into the doorframe as he passed inside.
"Jeez, you seriously need to cool it off, mate. You don't want to ruin your fan-club, do you?" a dark haired boy joked.
"I think the right term would be to warm up a bit, right Edward?" an unusually kind looking boy next to the window piped in, blue eyes sparkling at her. "Why don't you have a seat? Don't be shy."
Edward rolled his eyes. "Perhaps you could try with the Sorting again Terry. And perhaps we could get to use up the extra space in the dorm."
Cynical. Selene fixed him with a glare. The boy, Terry had been nothing but kind.
But Terry merely laughed. "Well, Hufflepuff does seem a lot more sunnier than our frosty tower-dorm."
"Still, most Hufflepuffs are airheads, don't you think?" The dark haired Ravenclaw chortled.
"Airhead and bashful rather sounds Gryffindor to me." Terry said thoughtfully. "Hufflepuffs are all rainbows and sunshine."
"I want to be a Gryffindor. I'd rather follow my heart than sticking my nose into some random book." Selene bit her lip, but her jaw was set. She wouldn't take any offense on something she looked up to.
"If you prefer being brawny than brainy." For the first time, the first year spoke up, smirking at her surprised look. "I'm Jeff Stevens and I want you to watch me get sorted into Ravenclaw."
Selene was about to retort as to why would she do something he wanted when she realized he was speaking to his seniors. They were all Ravenclaws by heart. They wouldn't hear a word against their sacred house. So, on her first journey to Hogwarts, Selene embraced silence for the rest of the part. But hey, better than being thrown out of the window, wasn't it?
Walking the stone steps of Hogwarts was like walking through history itself. She could visualize century-long generations going the same path, feeling the same strange bubbles of excitement and anxiety fluttering in their stomachs. Hundreds of eyes followed the movement of her small group readyto be sorted. As the others in her year got sorted, anxiety overpowered excitement, leaving her with nothing but to gnaw at her lower lip. A hand touched her shoulder lightly, making her yelp in surprise. Several eyes turned to her but the sorting hat chose that moment to bellow "Slytherin!", relieving her from the presumptuous stares.
"Are you okay?" a hight pitched but concerned voice dragged her out of her thoughts. "Sorry about startling you."
The girl looked small for her age, her small face framed with short raven hair sticking out in every direction. The girl looked genuinely concerned offered to hold her hand.
"I'm just so nervous." with a jolt Selene realized that the small voice was hers. "I want to be a Gryffindor. I have to."
"If it really matters to you then you could be one." the girl smiled kindly.
"I hope so."
"Cullen Alice." Professors Mcgonagall called out.
"That's my cue. See you around." Alice winked as she skipped over to the stool.
The hat took mere seconds before bellowing "RAVENCLAW!". Selene clapped the loudest she had so far. Alice looked happy and she deserved it. She waited patiently, not letting anxiety get the better of her and finally...
"Starling Selene."
Heart pacing at a hundred miles per hour, she settled on the stool as the hat obscured her vision. Gryffindor. Gryffindor. Gryffindor. She chanted the word over and over like a mantra, her eyes scrunched shit. Oh dear, all the determination for a certain boy? Not a Gryffindor, of course. Hmm...but what leads your determination? Ah, curiosity. Loads of curcuriosity, I see, so much that it's like a pitless hunger. Quite ambitious too. Slytherin, perhaps? No! Very well then, it's decided.
"RAVENCLAW! "
And that's when she felt all her faith in goodness be wiped clean.
Hello everyone. I'm back with the story, with some *obvious* changes of course. First would be the contrasting vampire theories of both the worlds. There are going to be a lot of changes in the Twilight world in order to adapt the two universes to each other. I'm going with some theories from the Potterverse and some from the Twilight Saga.
1. Vampires do not age in this world. Otherwise Voldemort would be one. So yes, Alice is actually eleven.
2. The Cullens are biologically related. Half-vampires are just as common as half-werewolves in the Potterverse which makes things more comfortable.
3. Bella would probably be in her crib in this timeline so sadly, I cannot add her.
If you prefer another pairing for the Twilight characters than the canons feel free to remind me. They are all so insanely matched up already and I'm too timid to make any more changes on my own than i have to.
Lastly, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and please do leave a review. They are like a shining reward for the hard work by the writer.
