Heir of the land above

The waves slowly dulled over itself, the continuing cycle going on and on and on, ending itself crashed at the ship. Arthur watched and waited for something to happen. He doesn't know what, he doesn't know where but he certainly knows why. It was probably because he would die of absolute boredom if he did-

Oh wait, never mind he should've been long dead if boredom could kill.

His mother and father always dragged him to these overseas trips to lands far off, Lands that his father said were soon to be his if he grew to be a a ruler with an iron fist and a cold heart. Lands that his mother said would be great friends and help in his time of need if he kept a good vision to what's right and stay logical. They said things about Arthur's future, what he could be, what he should be. They asked him once what he wanted his future to be, he said he wanted to live in a small home , married to the love of his life and spend his day with him, having simple jobs and simple lives. They never asked again after that. Afraid that if they let him continue to dream he would actually follow it. That he wouldn't fulfill they're dreams that were never meant to be. They took control of his life, he made sure he was punctual every day of every second and he would only do work, work and nothing but work. He didn't like it, but seeing his parent's proud faces made him smile. Or, at least he thought it was them being proud of him.

He would often escape, into the shore, digging his toes in the sand and make small mounds of them and kick them around, some often going to his eyes if the wind fought him back, making him furiously rub his eyes better. But during times when he gets caught he plays with a chambermaid's child or a princess that was visiting their vast kingdom. Each one had a different story, one Arthur was forced to listen to ; but there was this one particular story that Arthur did like.

She was a nice princess, she didn't whine that much and she barely visited Arthur so she always had so many things to tell him. She would tell him stories of far far off lands where there were all sorts of things that were far from she called, fairies, unicorns, ogres, witches, wizards, dragons, and her personal favorite, mermaids. She told him that they were half human and half fish.

That got Arthur a bit crept out.

But then she told him more about them, how they sing , how beautiful their underwater kingdoms were, how to meet one and other silly things like how their kisses let you breath underwater , that their scales are more precious than the gems they had or that if you eat them you can live forever.

As the stories of mermaids and mermen danced around him he grew fond of the stories and soon he had a new dream, to find and love a mermaid.

His name was Arthur Kirkland, he is destined to be the heir of a great monarchy but craved for a life that was never meant to be his. as pass, then weeks, months, years and our little dreamer is now 20, he was still like his younger self, craving for that life.
