"Mithros, Mynoss, and Shakith! Daine, is that you?"
In the corner of his closest, hidden amongst all the robes, cloaks, shirts, pants, and boots, a growling she-wolf glared at him with wide yellow eyes, baring her teeth. When she saw him, though, her expression seemed to soften instinctively, and she smiled – as much as a wolf can smile.
"What in the Black God's name are you doing in my closet? How did you breathe in there?" Numair asked, sitting and crossing his long legs. "It's stuffy up here. Hiding as a wolf – and at the full moon, nonetheless – you have a flair for the dramatic, Daine."
Sure enough, a streak of bright moonlight was soaring through the window opposite the closet and illuminating her furry form. Wolf-Daine stretched languidly in the light. Behind Numair, a familiar voice let out a short laugh, a very "I-told-you-so" sort of sound. Numair turned his head and sighed, nodding in acquiescence.
"I concede, Onua. You were right. There is, in fact, a she-wolf in my closet."
"Be glad it's a friendly one," Onua said, smirking.
The wolf in question suddenly tore at one of Numair's nicest robes with her teeth, and Numair was on the verge of shouting out in horror before he realized what she was trying to do. She tugged at the robe until it fell over her body, and then Daine shifted back into human form, grinning at Onua.
"It works better on people who don't know I can shapeshift," Daine said.
"Yes. Like the cooks. I think their reactions were the best."
"Who should we try next? Sir Gary?"
"Good idea! We can do the Rider barracks after that."
They proceeded to create an entire schedule for a night of "trick-making," as Daine called it; her excitement for the pranks was rather endearing. Numair couldn't help but smile.
"Don't go keeping my student up all night!" Numair called after them, sorry to see them go. Onua gave a careless wave of the hand in response, but Daine didn't appear to have heard him; she was scurrying out of the room first, eagerly anticipating further light-hearted wrongdoing.
