"Detention!"

"What? B-but, I can't…"

"I don't want to hear another word from the two of you, understood?"

"Yes, Professor Vector."

The two eighth year students in question turned on their heels and stalked out of the room, not even sparing a glance at the other. The door opened and slammed shut behind the brunette and blonde and nothing but their footsteps could be heard.

"You know what, I've had it with you." The brunette said out of the blue.

"You? Had it with me? No." The blonde replied sarcastically.

"I mean, this is all your fault!"

"My fault?" he scoffed, "As if."

"What do you mean, as if? This is completely your fault. You're the one who was taunting me, and you're the one who threw the first hex."

"Glad to know I got to your head." The blonde said like he was so high and mighty. "Anyway, if you didn't send those annoyingly loud birds of yours at me, Vector wouldn't have heard us, and we wouldn't have detention. So, yes, this is all your bloody fault."

"Well maybe you should just leave my friends and I alone."

"Oh, but of course. Can't have your boyfriends made fun of, can we?"

At that, Hermione Granger, turned on her heel and walked away. To her credit she didn't stop to turn around or punch the wall until after she turned the corner.

Hermione was the only one of the golden trio who came back to Hogwarts to finish her education. She had Ginny, but they didn't talk that much. She wished they were closer, but they really weren't. That left Hermione with not many friends, but plenty of enemies. Coming back this year, she realized that without Harry and Ron, that she was quite lonely. Not that she really wanted Ron for company. Hermione had thought that her and Ronald were going to be a really happy couple, but she was pretty sure that Ron was cheating on her.

And so, Hermione just shook out her bruised knuckles and walked to the common room thinking about her rotten luck to have gotten detention. In the forest. With Draco Malfoy of all people.

Hermione looked up from her comfortable spot on her bed and checked the time. She still had about twenty minutes until her detention. She settled back on her bed and finished the page of the book she was reading and slipped in a bookmark.

Then, she scurried over to her trunk and pulled out a pair of clothes. She slipped on the black, ripped skinny jeans and white hoodie. She then pulled her curly hair up into a high ponytail and grabbed her wand. She walked down the stairs and out of the common room, and into the forest.

The wind hit her the second she walked out of the looming castle known as Hogwarts. She pulled the sleeves of her hoodie down her wrist and ran to the lake and back to the castle trying to warm herself up. Once she felt warmer than freezing she looped to the Forbidden Forest and waited.

Nearing the forest, she started feeling odd tingles shoot up and down her back. She shivered at the sensation and leaned against a tree waiting for the other parts of her detention. She checked the time, and Malfoy was supposed to be there five minutes ago, and so she decided that she would be mad at him while she waited. She pulled her wand out of her hoodie pocket because the pockets made on her jeans apparently weren't made to hold anything. She started flicking it and watched as the bright sparks slowly, and peacefully fell to the ground. Oh, how she wished to be a spark that could forget all her worries and live a Malfoy free life.

Just then, she heard rustling, and looked up from current occupation to see Professor Slughorn and Draco Malfoy approaching.
