Hold On

Tony's favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon was to watch movies. It was something he and his mother had done and it had recently become something he and his partner had done. The credits for Casablanca ran across his big screen. Ziva moved from her space next to him and stretched out her arms.

"That was number four in my mom's top ten," Tony uttered as he reached for the remote. Ziva turned and smiled at him before yawning.

"I can see why," she replied. She had enjoyed the movie and from what she knew about Celia Paddington-DiNozzo she could understand the appeal.

"I think she would have liked you," Tony blurted out. Ziva stopped. They seldom talked about their mothers or her sister. The subject was just too painful. She felt obliged to reply.

"My mother would have liked you only because my father does not. Then she would have seen what I see and she would have liked you a lot. Tali would have hated you at first. She would have been as protective of me as I was of her. Then when she realised who you were when you stopped hiding, she would have liked you very much." Ziva uttered.

For a moment they both got lost in thoughts. They imagined a life with their lost loved ones in it. Tony imagined sitcom like moments as he navigated falling in love with Ziva and her family. Ziva imagined a happy extended family.

Tali's laugh echoed in her head. Tony suddenly smelt his mother's perfume. Ziva heard her mother humming. Their hands intertwined.

"I miss them," Ziva whispered.

"I miss her," Tony uttered before registering what Ziva had said.

They sat like that for a while lost in memories. They held on to each other tight.
