Innocent Boys

Innocent boys frolicking through the grass fields outside the quaint town of Pallet Town. One taller, more well-built than the other, running as fast as his little legs could offer him. The other boy, slim, quiet, thoughtful, tries his best to catch up to his more athletic friend. Despite his best efforts, the uniquely red-eyed boy tries in vain to tag - to touch - his "rival".

"Ha Ha!" the spiky, brown-haired boy teases, "Can't catch me, Red!" He runs and runs - farther and farther away from the younger boy.

Red picks up his speed as his breath comes out in rapid pants. He wanted nothing more than to reach out to his friend - to finally be where he was.

Green…, Red thought to himself as he continued in his pursuit after his friend. Wait for me… Please…

Red begged in his mind for Green to stop in his tracks - to turn around and embrace Red in his strong arms. Why… won't you stop?

Green continued to run, and showed no signs of slowing. Red stared ahead at the back of his friend's head and watched with a quite interest at Green's gleaming hair dancing under the sun's rays. His friend was beautiful as his long limbs floated off the summer's grass. Red loved to watch Green run - he never failed to be graceful.

Green finally came to a stop to catch his breath. "Red," he panted breathlessly, "You're so slow! You'll never be able to beat me at this rate!"

Red listened to his friend belittle him of his shortcomings as he stared intently at his friend kneeling down to the ground for some rest.

Green looked up at Red and smiled cockily. "One day, I'll be so ahead of you, you won't even be able to see the back of my head," Green taunted Red as he picked at the grass surrounding him.

Red said nothing, but thought about how dreadful it would be to never again be able to bear witness to his friend's beauty.

Red sat himself down next to his friend and looked at him with a slight smile on his lips.

Green only looked at him back with a grimace. "W-what are you smiling about, dork?" Green jeered.

Red continued to stare at Green with the same quiet interest in his expressive red eyes.

Green squirmed under Red's intense gaze. After a few awkward moments, Green quickly picked himself up the ground and wiped the dirt on his pants. "Race you back home," Green suddenly said, and immediately started making his way back to their hometown.

Red swiftly sprang up to follow. He wanted to watch his friend run again. He didn't mind that Green was always beating him. Red knew he would always have the advantage of watching the beauty of his friend run as he followed close behind.
