A/N: One year ago, I posted my very first GSR ff, and I felt today was the appropriate moment to say a huge thank you to a good friend and my beta, graciebutterfliedgsr. Grace, thank you a thousand times over for all the help you have given me throughout the year (and listening to me complain way too much about writing 'issues'). If it wasn't for your encouragement on my first story, I'm not sure I would have had the courage to post it and therefore even attempt to continue to write…
A/N2: To everyone else: What a year! Thank you for all the support you have given/shown me through reviews, alerts, and favoriting. And for those who did not think I could write anything more random than I already have… well never be surprised…
Disclaimer: I hereby claim no ownership of CSI.
"Gil, come home. Please," she requested, as soon as he answered his phone.
"What's wrong?" He could hear the underlying stress in her voice and was immediately concerned.
"We have a, um, UFO problem."
"Unidentified flying object?" he asked, thoroughly confused now.
"No. More like unidentified foreign object." She sighed heavily, holding the portable phone to her ear with one hand while her other arm held her daughter on her hip. "Though the object has now been identified, so technically it would no longer be classified as unidentified—"
"Honey, you're not making any sense." He was sitting in his office, after arriving at the Crime Lab for work minutes earlier.
"Apparently, our daughter –somehow unbeknownst to the two of us– decided she did not want to finish eating her peas from dinner three nights ago… and, instead, she stuck who knows how many up her nose."
He began to laugh but then quickly realized she hadn't joined in. "You're not joking, are you?"
"I only wish I was kidding."
"Well, at least, our daughter's resourceful… though you would think with 'Bruno the Garbage Disposal' she would have fed him the peas." As he spoke, he began gathering his things so he could leave work, knowing he would need to pass on supervisor duties to someone else tonight.
"You're forgetting that Bruno hates all things green."
"Oh, true. So, how did you discover Abby's deceit anyway?"
"She complained her nose was hurting. I was obviously clueless and had no idea why. So I looked and couldn't see anything… apparently Abby also figured she could extract the peas herself and pushed them farther up her nose. Then she started crying—"
"Crying?" he asked, sounding alarmed. "She's in that much pain?"
"There is discomfort, yes. But she was mainly crying because she thought I would be mad at her if she told me the truth… so after promising –pinky promising, crossing my heart– that I would not hate her forever and ever she finally admitted to what she had done."
"Wow."
"Yeah, I know. So, I want to take her to the Emergency Room, and she's freaking out… you know how she gets about d-o-c-t-o-r-s," she said, spelling the word out so as not to upset her daughter any more. "Anyway, she just really wants her daddy and wants him now."
"I'm coming home. Tell Abby that… okay? I'll just hand out the case files tonight and leave."
"Okay, good. I'll tell her. She'll be fine once you're home."
They spoke a couple of more minutes before saying their goodbyes.
"Oh, Sara?" he said, catching her before she hung up the phone on her end.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"You've been watching way too many reruns of The X-Files."
FIN
A/N3: Raises hand meekly in the air… I've been watching way too much X-Files (P.S. Grace, I'm now on Season 4 and I'm a MSR shipper...yeah!). As always, hope you enjoyed the story/my crazy randomness.
