The Name Game
Jim held the key to the lock, turning up his hearing slightly to see if Blair was home.
"Really, I'm not joking...wait...don't hang...awww, shit. Not again."
The sentinel swung open the door to see his guide hanging up the phone, frustration written clearly on this face. Blair looked up as Jim entered the room.
"Hey, Jim, thank God. I need a lift to the airport."
"The airport? You've got to be kidding Sandburg. I just got off a fifteen hour shift and the only place I'm going is to bed."
"Can I borrow the truck then? I need to get to the airport now."
"Hold up there Chief. Nobody, but nobody drives sweetheart but me."
"Come on Jim. It's an emergency or I wouldn't ask."
"Just slow down for a minute and tell me what's going on."
"Well, my cousin Dick is flying in from LA. He and Naomi were supposed to meet up here then go on to Chicago, but Naomi got off at the wrong airport and can't get another flight until tomorrow morning. I need to catch Dick and let him know what's going on but the car won't start and I don't have enough cash for a taxi"
"So have him paged at the airport and tell him what's going on."
Blair flushed slightly in embarrassment. "Well, that's the problem Big Guy. The airport thinks its a prank call and they're refusing to page him."
"Why would they think it's a prank call?"
"Well, you know how some of the family tends to go for kinda odd names right?"
"This isn't something like the Julia Roberts incident last year is it?"
"Worse"
"Just how many people in your family have these odd names?" He caught the grin on his guide's face. "I probably don't want to know do I?"
"Probably not."
"Ok, I'll bite. What is so terrible about your cousin's name that the airport won't page him?"
"It's not terrible really...just...never mind, it is terrible. Really terrible. And what makes it worse is he used to be a lawyer."
"Chief" Jim growled warningly "Tell me what Dick's last name is in the next three seconds or walk to the airport. It is raining out by the way."
"Head"
"What?"
"His last name is... Head."
Jim stood silently for a moment. finally he scooped the keys out of the basket beside the door and walked out the door.
"Get in the truck Chief. Just get in the truck."
