CHAPTER ONE
Guido the Glider lay awake in a tree, the Night Circle shining on him. He would come of age tomorrow but he couldn't remember his family nor could he recall having seen another creature like himself. Was he the last Glider or were there more like himself? Thinking that he may well be the last of the Gliders, he drifted into an uneasy sleep.
A cricket starts chirping in the night. "Pretty sounding, aren't they? They do taste good though." Guido says to himself. As the cricket's chirps charm Guido into a more comfortable sleep he begins to dream. In his dream he sees a mighty mountain, the area before the mountain is a tropical climate, the area higher up a sub tropical climate, higher up temporal forest, higher up a sub arctic climate with many pine trees. Higher up 8704 feet of elevation with snow. Around the mountain in the dream small specks are moving around. As the scene zooms in they are revealed to be gliders. As it continues to the surface 3 gliders are seen playing in the snow.
Guido wakes up. "That was a strange Sleep Story." he says to himself. The lesser circle remains well in the sky as the greater circle begins to rise for the morning, a good sign it will be visible long into the day. Some of the herds begin to head over to get their morning water.
Guido thinks that he may have seen the mountain that he saw in his Sleep Story in real life at some point in his past. Knowing that Mr. Thicknose had a lot of knowledge of the Mysterious Beyond, he decides to ask him about it, hoping to find out more. Maybe this was the same sort of Sleep Story that Littlefoot had had shortly before he and his family had traveled from the Great Valley to the Crater and where Littlefoot had ended up meeting his long-lost father Bron.
