The Walk on a half-moonlit night
By: Dennis D. Georges
Hello to all who are reading my book. I am Jonathan Smith and I am fifty two years old. I am also dead. What I mean is that by the time you read this I would have died. This is my first story and it will be my last. I am going to write to you my last few months of my life. Let me get started. I went to my doctor for my annual check up and he didn't like something on my x ray, so he sent me to a specialist and that Doctor said that I had lung cancer. He also told me that I didn't have that long to live. He said, "Well from looking at your scan it looks like you only have three months to live; but with treatment we can make it longer for you to live."
I was shocked and I couldn't believe it. I out of all people had cancer and that the Doctor knew how many months it would take me to die. He was like death showing me the list of who he has to come and take with him and he was coming for me in three months.
"I am sorry doc, but I would rather just live the rest of my life and do what I always wanted to do."
You are probably thinking of that movie called the Bucket List but this is nothing like that. I am not rich and I don't have that many things on my list that I want to do. You might as well think that I am just a fool for refusing treatment but what is that going to do just make me live longer? God already set my time to go and I can't change that. I should just live my last few months of my life.
Chapter 2
Here is my list.
Visit my son and daughter
Visit my wife's grave
Have a walk around downtown
Eat at an expensive restaurant.
I think I should tell you my history before I continue. I was born in Chicago, IL and lived there most of my life. Throughout my education, I have been the unpopular guy. I was to myself and in my own world. I had one friend and one girlfriend, which I ended up marring. Her name was Jill. The most beautiful name that I ever heard. There is an old picture of us. God I loved her. After high school, she went on and went to collage while I went and tried to find a job. That time it wasn't hard to find one without a collage degree. It's too late to get one now. My wife gave birth to a boy and a girl. My son's name is Christopher was born first. My daughter's name is Anna. She was born two years after my son. Both of my children are married, have jobs, and my son has kids, but my daughter hasn't yet. They are too busy for me; they come for holidays and my birthdays. My son is married and has two boys. He works for Motorola and rarely spends time with them. My daughter is married and works as a teacher. She won't have kids because she is too busy.
