I am posting this because it's been sitting on my harddrive for basically two years now and it's never going to get finished. However, I do like the punchline and don't really want to keep it away from public scrutiny. If anybody wants to pick it up and run with, you are more than welcome. ^___^

I haven't read any Furuba fanfiction for that amount of time as well, so if anyone else has already done this, I apologize. I sincerely have no idea what kind of stuff is out there and I do not mean to plagiarize.

I also have no sense of timeline.

Fruits Basket and its characters and concepts do not belong to me. I am simply borrowing them, and will return them relatively unscathed.

UNTITLED SNIPPET

"Eh? That's right!" Tooru's unexpected exclamation startled the three males sitting around the table.

"What's right, Tooru-chan?" Shigure asked slowly with a blank look on his face.

"Shigure-san, I don't know when your or Souma-kun's or Kyou-kun's birthdays are!" Tooru's expression was earnest and utterly focused on solving the problem facing her. "You all threw me a wonderful birthday party, but I still don't know when everyone's birthdays are!" Turning to face him, she pleaded with clasped hands, "Please, Shigure-san, tell me!"

Shigure managed to hold her gaze for a few moments before breaking down into a fit of badly restrained snickers. Tooru's eyes grew rounder and rounder as his shoulder tremors moved to encompass his whole body, eventually unable to keep its balance and falling to the floor. "Eh?" She asked eloquently, completely confused why Shigure would find the request so funny. "Shigure-san?"

Kyou grunted in annoyance and focused again on consuming his dinner. "Just ignore him."

"Huh? Oh, but..." Tooru looked between the shaking man on the floor and Kyou, who was studiously trying to avoid her eyes. "Kyou-kun, what's so funny?"

Kyou looked distinctly uncomfortable as he shoveled tendon into his mouth more forcefully. "Kyou-kun? Souma-kun?"

Yuki, who heretofore had been silent, pushed himself to his feet and replied, "The Jyuunishi don't observe their birthdays, Honda-san." He walked to the doorway and hesitated before leaving fully. Turning his head to the side slighly, he said over his shoulder, "It's generally not considered a reason to celebrate."
