Hey there! This is for the Digimon Bingo challenge on the Digimon Fanfiction Challenge forums! The prompt is the quote below.

Unwanted Devil

"Let me go, let me at 'er!" -Angewomon

All the other Digidestined laughed about it, of course. Well, they weren't laughing when the actual spat between Angewomon and LadyDevimon took place. But now that (relative) peace had come again, it was amusing. Particularly when the she-angel and she-devil Digimon got into a slapping match, which everyone guffawed over.

All except Kari, who watched Gatomon sulk over all the teasing. The cat (angel) Digimon kept her silence and distance whenever the subject came up. Kari wished that Gatomon didn't take the jokes so seriously, though Kari herself didn't care for them either. It seemed like the others had forgotten how severe the fight was, that it was a battle to protect the worlds just like the rest.

She spotted Gatomon lounging in the window in her room, the (ringless) tip of her tail twitching. She didn't turn or say a word, but Kari knew Gatomon was aware of her arrival. Her instinct was too sharp not to detect her partner.

Kari took a deep breath, put on a casual smile, and ambled over to the white cat Digimon. "They're not trying to be mean, Gatomon. Everyone's under a lot of stress right now, and they need something to laugh at. I don't think it's very funny myself, but…"

Gatomon stretched on the windowsill, turning to face Kari. "Yeah yeah. Real cat fight and all that. Ha ha."

"Please don't be mad at them," said Kari.

"I'm not," Gatomon replied, her tail swishing in the air. "Well, maybe a little. But it's not that big of a deal. Not really."

The room grew quiet for too long.

"Then what's bothering you, Gatomon?" asked Kari.

Gatomon sighed and rolled back toward the city view. "Oh, nothing important. It doesn't really matter now."

"What doesn't matter?" asked Kari.

Gatomon paused. "I hate her. LadyDevimon."

"I've noticed," said Kari. "Well, she's a bad Digimon who attacked the real world. It's okay to…well, dislike her greatly at least."

Gatomon was still turned away. "No, I really hate LadyDevimon. All LadyDevimon, not just the one I fought the other day. I don't want any of them to exist at all."

Kari was surprised by the coldness in Gatomon's tone. "It's not good to hate so much, Gatomon."

"I know," said Gatomon. "But I can't help it. It's like how TK hates anything connected to Devimon. It's not just hating the Digimon herself, but everything she represents, everything that creates one of her." Another pause. "And…"

"And?"

Gatomon turned back to Kari, an unreadable expression on her visage. "And I could have become one of her, you know. A LadyDevimon. If I had broken just a little further when I was still Salamon, when I was still with Myotismon, I could have digivolved to something dark like that…"

Kari petted Gatomon's head. "But you didn't, because you're Gatomon. Because you were strong, and always have been. Even…even if you never met me, you would have found your way eventually, become Angewomon, everything."

Gatomon smiled. "And that's why it's pointless to think about it. It's all already happened. I became me, and I found you. Everything worked out." She grew somber again. "But…that's why I hate LadyDevimon, and always will. Because she makes me think about stuff like that. How things could have gone wrong. It's stupid, I know, but…"

"It's scares you, doesn't it?" said Kari, still petting Gatomon.

Gatomon sighed, turning onto her back. "Don't tell. Let the others laugh."

Kari grinned, rubbing Gatomon's belly. She felt the rumblings of a purr. "Don't worry, I won't."

IIIIII

Gatomon doesn't directly evolve into LadyDevimon, but Salamon can become BlackGatomon and evolve into her.

Hope you enjoyed :).
