We are not who we appear to be. No, we are much more complex than that. You only see our surface.
But you will never see or understand our complexity. We will never stop hiding our true selves. To reveal ourselves would mean revealing our weaknesses, and we will never do that. We will not be seen as weak. We cannot be seen as weak. You will not be able to take advantage of us.
You see us as unfeeling, but that is not true. We feel. We feel just as deeply as you do. You just won't ever see it. You will not be given any weapon to use against us.
You see us as monsters, but that is not true. We love each other more than you could ever hope to understand. We just show our love in less disgusting ways. We do not need roses or epic poems of undying love and devotion. We do not need the kisses just for the sake of kissing. We do not need the false, public hugs.
You see us as evil, but that is not true. What is so wrong with wanting to keep our culture alive? Besides, if we did not fight, you would be given the chance to break us down. No, we will break you before you can break us. We will not be broken.
We won't deny that we enjoy the pain and the misery that we bring you. But you will continue to deny our pain and misery. You are incapable of seeing such things because we will never show them to you. We will not be brought down by what we must keep hidden.
You do not know who we are. You know nothing about us. You just think that you understand us.
Who are we? We are masks.
