A/N: Soooo, how many people participated in the Demonbusters event on Gaia? What did you guys think of the ending?
I know that a lot of Gaians, including myself, were a bit disappointed in the manga. It seemed too rushed. What became of the Sentinel and the Overseer? This simply would not do, so I took matters into my own hands.
I originally wrote this in a thread, but have decided to post it on for everyone to enjoy. I've also slightly modified it from its original form.
What you are about to read is intended to be a one-shot drabble, though I might write another chapter if people really want me to.
Ah, but enough of my idle chatter. On with the story!
After having been stripped of their powers and flung to some far of Gaia by Jack, the Overseer and the Sentinel reflect on the recent events that have occured...
"So, this is how it all ends, huh?" sighed the Overseer dejectedly. "Well, at least I'm not a clam anymore."
"This can't be how it ends!" the Sentinel shrieked with rage. "Ooooh, just you wait, Overseer! I'll find a way to get my power back, and-"
"And then what?" the older questioned. "You'll take out your anger on me? Our battle is over. We both know who would have won, had we not been interrupted... You've grown much stronger since last we met."
The Sentinel bit her lip and pondered for a moment. After a minute or two, she sank down to the ground in exasperation. "This isn't what I wanted... It never really was... I just thought that my way of doing things was better, that's all..."
The Overseer looked at his one-time friend curiously. "It's kind of funny, you know..."
"What's funny?"
"Well, think about it- this whole thing started over an earthworm. A tiny little powerless creature. And now we're powerless. It's kind of odd how these things work out." The Overseer turned to look at the Sentinel. Her eyes were locked on him, some unreadable emotion behind them.
There was an uneasy silence between them.
Finally, the stronger of the two spoke. "Yeah... I guess it is kind of funny, now that I think about it." She smiled up at her old friend apologetically. "So, um... what now?"
The Overseer was silent for a moment. "The battle between me and you is over, but our battle against that Jack character has just begun."
"Are you... suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" the Sentinel gasped, her eyes wide in amazement. "Are you saying that we should find some way to exact our revenge on Jack?"
"That's precisely what I'm saying. It may be a little out of my zone of comfort to do so, but..." the older muttered.
"Excuse me? You possessed a mortal's body, amassed an army of followers, and used a giant laser trident against my minions, and you're having doubts about getting revenge?" the younger replied, an expression of amused disbelief playing across her features.
"... You've got a point," the Overseer said, clasping the Sentinel's hands in his. "But regardless, we will find a way to get our powers back..."
"... And we'll make that pumpkin-headed freak pay!" the Sentinel finished in a tone of giddy excitement. The two smiled at each other for a moment, and then realized that they were holding hands. They turned away from each other, their faces a bright shade of crimson.
After another awkward silence, the Overseer was the first to speak. "So... friends again?"
The Sentinel smirked. "Friends."
