A/N- Helllooooooo my readers. I was just reading a fanfic where Aang calls Katara, Kat. Then this random idea pooped into my head, and THIS was invented. :O Hope you like it! R&R!! PLZUMS.

What's in a Nickname?

Katara blinked twice in surprise at what Aang had just said. He was equally surprised as he gazed back at her wondering what he'd done wrong this time. Although he wasn't even sure WHAT he'd done wrong, he knew he'd done something. Her face said it all. Why couldn't he ever get things right when it came to her?

"What did you just call me?" she asked. Her tone wasn't offended or hurt like he'd expected, (Why was he expecting her to be hurt? It wasn't offensive.) but curious, surprised even.

"Erm…Kat." he replied a little unsurely. Katara thought about this. No one had EVER called her Kat. Not her father, or her mother, or her grandmother. Not even Sokka!

"Why?" she asked. What was she asking that for? Now she felt dumb. Aang seemed a little troubled by the question, unsure of how to answer it exactly. It was the kind of thing where you fight with your brother or sister and they ask you 'why?' whenever you came up with a reason to the previous 'why'.

"Well…I…uh…because we're dating, I guess?" he answered a bit awkwardly. Katara was still giving him that weird look and he mentally slapped himself for ever calling her that in the first place. Who knew one little nickname could do so much! Were all girls this sensitive about what people called them?

"Look, Katara. I'm sorry if you didn't like me calling you that. I won't do it again." he assured her. Katara was lost in her own thoughts however. She hadn't really minded being called Kat. It was catchy and short…but it was so weird. If she said she didn't mind, would she ever get used to it?

"Katara?" Aang asked, waving a hand in front of her face, starting to feel a little frustrated. He had absolutely no idea what was such a big deal and it was starting to bug him. She snapped out of her thoughts.

"No, no. I didn't mind that much Aang. It's just…weird. No one's ever given me a nickname before." she told him. Aang breathed a sigh of relief, the irritation flowing out with it. At least she wasn't mad. He tugged his collar shyly, hoping this next question wouldn't do the same thing 'Kat' had done.

"So…can I call you Kat?" he asked, again, awkwardly. Katara thought a moment. Maybe she could get used to it. Besides, when she thought about it, it had a sort of romantic feeling to it. It showed that she belonged to Aang. It was his special name he'd given her. The thought of that made her smile and she focused on him at him, still grinning.

"Sure. You can call me Kat."

A/N- O_______O Well that was weird. But cute! 8DDD Sooooo…..reviews? Huh? Huh?
