TITLE: AFTER THE STORM
DATE: JULY 2, 2002
NOTES: I've been itching to write some kind of fic lately. After thinking it out for a while, I've decided to write a second, longer story of Prof. Tomoe. I really want to capture the spirit of this neglected character in my own story. So, before I make this note unnecessarily longer, I present to you, the story of Prof. Tomoe.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thunder was all I could hear. The lightning had passed, all except for the heat lightning that was visible in the far off heavens. Was this storm of fate a gift from the heavens? I have been given a whole new life. A whole new destiny is clear to me now. We are the Death Busters...We are the future.
Future...What a strange entity that is. Past...Present...Future. They are always expanding. They are always dying. But maybe that's all life is. Just an expanding death.
Such interesting theories I have. I am not one to brag, but I have always known I've had a gift. The gift of knowledge. But was I truly "chosen" by God? Perhaps it was more of a calling...
I can't help but laugh. I'm a scientist, not a preacher. But what kind of scientist does not acknowledge the...spiritual, the super natural. After all, I have seen these things with my own eyes.
A gift from the heavens...or an invitation to hell.
Hmmphh...What rubbish.
How ironic that it was I who had been give this new life. They denounced me as a mad scientist. Said I went too far with my experimentation's.
Once, in that dead past of mine, I had dedicated my life to genetic engineering. But perhaps that was all a road to this new life. As if the life I had was nothing more than a sacrifice. Sacrifices are always necessary. And there should be no regret. It will always benefit the road to...the future.
I laugh again. I listen to myself. Thinking so deeply.
Mad scientist...If they could only see me now. Would they still call me such a name? Yes, I know the answer to that. Some of my thoughts and theories are in fact mad. But this madness leads to the future.
The future is the one thing that is always on our side. But that's just my theory. One thought. One opinion.
One. What an amazing number. To the average human mind, it is one single unit. Insignificant and often times worthless. But in reality, one is just as it sounds. A single unity. Nothing more, nothing less.
"Professor," I heard the sound of my assistant's high heels tapping into the room before she called me to attention, "shall we begin the experiment?"
"Kaori," I said to the red haired woman, "how much...time...has passed by?"
"...It's around one in the morning, sir."
I paused for a moment and looked around the room. I let out a yawn and said, "I guess there's no use putting it off. The Daimon are of interest to me."
"Ah...you're not tired?"
"No, not at all. Besides," I smirked, "there's no rest for the wicked."
