Uther knew that he shouldn't feel guilty but even then, guilt seemed to have him in a chokehold. It constantly prodded at him. It never let him be.
He had done everything possible to avenge Ygraine but clearly, it never was enough. How could it be enough? Magic had not yet been eradicated! There would always be despicable sorcerers lingering beyond the borders of his land. To make matters worse, the Druids continued to linger inside the borders of his kingdom.
Magic was almost like a bad smell; it could never be decimated but Uther still tried. How could he quit? He still saw Ygraine; her eyes silently accusing him. Arthur had her eyes.
Magic would regret taking away his Queen.
