Adrian POV
I walked down the dorms with my hands shoved in my pockets and an anxious expression on my face, the music! I'd heard it all night now, and I needed to find its source. It couldn't be Rose, or Lissa they were fast asleep. I trudged down the hallway nearing the sound of a soft melody. A Lullaby.
My precious one, my tiny one, lay down your pretty head. My precious one, my darling one; don't let your lashes weep. Just bow your head and give your cares to me. And in your dreams you'll ride on angels' wings.
My dearest one my sleepy one, its time to go to bed
My cherished one, my weary one; it's time to go to sleep.
Just close your eyes and fall into the sweetest dream, cause in my loving arms.
You're safe as you will ever be so hush my dear and sleep.
Dance with the stars and touch the face of god
and if you should awake...
I gasped, a beautiful girl with long raven hair and caramel skin rocked a sleeping child back and forth in her arms, as she hummed the remainder of her lullaby. She looked up, startled at the sound of my gasp.
"Did I wake you? I'm sorry." She whispered frantically as she apologized profusely. I shook my head at her.
"No, I was already awake." I lied. She smiled at me.
"Rough night?"
"Rough life." I answered chuckling.
"Come in, um, I have some food if you want some, it's the least I can do for waking you up." She said shrugging slightly.
"You didn't- what kind of food?" I questioned suddenly hungry.
"I have cupcakes."
"Yumm." I told her smiling. She stood gently and placed the sleeping child in its crib.
"That's a beautiful baby." I told her, although I couldn't see its face. If it came from her it had to be beautiful. I could hardly see her face in the dark but her beauty illuminated.
"Her name is Calla." She whispered. "And, thank you."
"Shouldn't you be, you know freaked out that I just showed up at your door?" I asked puzzled.
"I should huh? It's just something you give off, I know you don't mean me any harm. Maybe I'm wrong." Her face hardened as her eyes went to some distant memory. I needed to here her voice again.
"I didn't catch your name."
"Rachel, Rachel Anastasia Romanov, no I'm not related to the Grand Duchess now passed, just a coincidence is all." She cleared. I smiled toothily at her.
"Adrian." I extended my hand for her to shake, which thankfully she did. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.
"Well Adrian, I owe you a cupcake right? C'mon." She led me through the small suite into the kitchen, placed upon the counter was a cake tub with cupcakes in it. She smiled sheepishly at me. "Chocolate or Vanilla?"
"Chocolate." I answered, suddenly feeling more awake than I had moments ago. I wanted to get to know this girl. She handed me the cupcake while eating one of her own. She turned around completely and in the dim light, I saw her beautiful green eyes, troubled with golden specks. The most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
"What did you say your last name was?" She began peeling the paper off of it.
"Ivashkov." She dropped the cupcake.
"Out." Her voice trembled. Her whole face contorted as if she were holding back tears.
"Come again?" I wasn't sure I'd heard her right.
"Get out!" She shouted, effectively waking the baby. Another tiny cry added to the first. "Get out!" She shouted again, I stopped frozen in shock, before fleeing. What had I done to make her so upset? Why did she hate us? The Ivashkov family I mean. I had to find out, or I'd never be able to sleep another night in my life.
