Unacceptable

"I thought... I told you to stay away..."

Harold licked his lips nervously, eyes bouncing between the rear view mirror and the road. "That was simply not... acceptable," he said, gaze flickering once again to the bleeding man in his backseat.

"It was... dangerous," Reese muttered, slipping down in the seat.

"When is it not?" Harold replied, impatiently tightening his grip on the steering wheel as they were forced to a stop by a red light.

"You could... have been killed," continued the ex-CIA agent, and Harold watched with anxiety as the man tried to sit up.

"Well, you were doing a good job of it," Harold stated bluntly, hitting the accelerator when the light turned green.

Reese coughed roughly in the backseat, the noise turning into a gargled laugh. Harold applied more pressure to the accelerator. "You know me..." Reese rasped, the noise of movement heard over his voice.

Harold made a disagreeable noise in the back of his throat. "I could have stopped this. I should have noticed; I should have... been on top of this."

That throaty yet hoarse chuckle in the back caused Harold to look back into the rear view. Reese was looking pale, paler than usual, the crimson alarmingly prominent against the white shirt. Harold needed to get him to a hospital, needed to get help to him...

"Don't... don't worry about me. I can... handle it all myself."

"Apparently not, Mr. Reese," Harold replied disdainfully, his voice hiding the slight panic still in his system.

If this case had brought some trouble, at least, at the end of the day, Harold still had his partner.

For that, he was genuinely grateful.

I... have watched... approximentally... one episode of Person of Interest... and maybe ten or so minutes or another. Not in order. And definitely not at the beginning of the series. But. I love it. AND I CAN'T WATCH IT. BECAUSE CBS DOESN'T HOST IT ONLINE. So, I'm catching the ones on the telly and will watch any others when it comes out on DVD.

Anyway, this is a short drabble taking up right from the end of Number Crunch (my technical 'first' full episode xD). From the forty-so minutes that I watched of it Tuesday, I hope it's as in character as... it should be. I could be totally off. But I hope not.
