The story behind the word 'puddle jumper' is one you wouldn't expect. Many feel it's because they can fit through a working stargate, or 'puddles', since that's the name of the visual you receive with an open wormhole, but the show is written in a fictional standpoint. The real story behind puddle jumpers is this:
The writers have a little dog, and when it rains heavily, the dog becomes a 'puddle jumper' because he's constantly having to jump through puddles. I.E. puddle jumper. That's the background story, and I'm sticking to it. Flames welcome.
