Glimpses 3

Eames leaned back
and popped a Skittle into her mouth. She chewed on it while thinking
about the Carlotta fan club she and her partner had just been to. She
watched her partner fill in Deakins, Carver and Leah Fraser-O'Roark,
Carver's partner. Leah was looking over pictures that Bobby had
assembled, along with some of his notes. "So, Eames," she finally
ventured, not taking her eyes of the dress, "What's your take on
this little Mask Ball?"
Eames rolled her eyes. "I felt like
stranger the whole time. They kept looking us over like their eyes
were lasers."
"You were a stranger," Leah pointed out, "they could probably sense you weren't really a fan. What did you say about Bobby to break the ice?"
Eames saw Goren look at her with raised eyebrows. Leah would know enough about her to sense that she had made a joke. They were alike—two women who didn't get along with other women—so they had become friends of a sort, but not as close as Leah and Bobby were. "It was like high-school without the zits, that's what I told Bobby."
Leah flipped back to the dress. "Mmm. Or a cop social function without the badges."
Eames, Bobby, and Deakins all stared at her for a moment. Then Bobby smirked and said, "I knew there was a reason I liked you."

When Eames woke up from her grogginess, her new daughter was all she could look at. So beautiful. So perfect. Finally here. Finally, her very own. She had loved carrying Nathan for nine months, and had enjoyed every moment of her second pregnancy, but she had waited with breath caught for this moment, this perfect moment, this perfect child.
She looked over to where her husband, Harry, was talking with her brother Butch. He looked over at her and smiled his special smile. They had come so far together, and been through so much these past few years, and he had supported her through all of it.
She asked, "When will Bobby be here?"
"Soon. You'll get to tell him soon
enough."
Butch laughed, "shouldn't the man have gotten to
know he's got a namesake before she was born?"
Lex shrugged her shoulders. "I told him he'd have to wait."
Liz smiled contently. "It's a great name, Lex."
She said it quietly to herself. Robina. Bobbi for short. It wasn't so that her partner would have a namesake. Nathan Robert fulfilled that quite nicely. It was so that, in case the worst happened, she could still say his name every day.
