Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. I do however own Amber Azreal.

This story is written for Rosa Clearwater's what would happen if….

The prompt is: What if Ron asked Hermione to the Yule ball.

This is my first Harry Potter fanfic and my first fan fiction challenge.

It's Obvious

Harry knew. Perhaps it was because he was the expert at noticing things, things that other people usually missed. On the other hand, perhaps it was because he knew them.

Though in later years, he realized it was one of Hogwarts worst kept secrets.

You see Ron and Hermione loved each other. Though they had not realized it yet, everyone else however did. From quick-witted, sharp-tongued Amber Azreal to equally clever, reserved Alexander Moon.

It was ironic that members of both Slytherin & Gryffindor saw it. After all, the only thing those two houses ever agreed on, was to disagree.

Harry knew Ron loved Hermione. He saw the way Ron visibly brightened whenever she entered a room.

He also saw how Ron choked when Amber asked if he was asking someone to the ball. He saw Amber's smug look when Ron red-faced and spluttering told her he was asking someone special.

He noticed that whenever Amber mentioned the Yule Ball after that Ron would inevitably look at Hermione.

Harry knew Ron loved Hermione.

He was not the only one.

Amber Azreal knew Hermione loved Ron. It was obvious to her, because they reminded her of her parents, though admittedly without all the shouting. Honestly, could they be quiet for five minutes so she could have some peace.

She saw Hermione's face whenever she caught sight of Ron in the hallways. She also listened silently when Hermione launched into one of her many diatribes about SPEW.

She saw how Ron would listen without saying a word.

Finally, she took matters into her own hands and confronted Ron about who he was taking to the Yule Ball.

It was rather amusing to see Ron splutter.

However, in the end she got the answer she wanted.

They were meant for each other.

Alexander Moon was a Slytherin, but that did not stop him from noticing. He was not blind. After all, even the Slytherins paid attention paid attention to the Golden Trio.

He saw the way Granger and Weasley looked at each other. They were in love though they didn't know yet.

He saw how Granger and Potter had to restrain Weasley whenever Malfoy insulted her. He understood how Weasley felt because it was the same reaction his father had whenever someone insulted his Muggle-born wife.

He knew they were in love.

They all knew.

Therefore, it was too no one's surprise (except perhaps Hermione's). When two days before the Yule Ball, Ron finally asked her that all-important question. They were not surprised when she squealed, flung her arms around his neck, and kissed him full on the lips.

No one was surprised when the happy couple danced the night away.

Harry was happy because his best mate and the girl he loved like a sister finally got the happiness they deserved. Amber was thrilled, because she no longer had to listen to Hermione wondering why Ron never noticed her. And Moon; well Moon was happy because Malfoy and his goons owed him over one hundred galleons. Take that ferret.

Author's note: J.K.R. created a character known simply as Moon who is in Harry's year. It never mentions a first name, house, or even gender. I am just using creative license by making him a half-blood Slytherin.
