Knockknockknock! The door goes. And there's knocking and it gets louder and louder the longer he takes. With a grunt, he reaches the door and flings it open. His eyebrows shoot up and he coughs as the chilly winter air sweeps inside his house.

"Come see the snow with me, Eli!" The girl on the other side of the door says enthusiastically.

"I'm tired and –"

"Please?" She pouts.

He scratches his head and lets out a sigh, "Fine."

He snatches his coat from the hanger next to the television set in his living room and walks back to the door while buttoning up the coat. The girl grabs his hand and the girl he's liked for years is dragging him across the city under the snow.

Her name is Clare Edwards and her curly locks remind him of autumn. She smells like vanilla, he notes, and she has a glow around her that makes her more radiant than the stars themselves. He wouldn't say he likes her because of infatuation because he knows her well enough to know it's something else. He likes her because she's Clare Edwards and there can only be one Clare Edwards for him. Now and always.

They reach their high school after a while of running and they open the door with the key trusted to Eli to keep for becoming school President. Once inside, she takes him up to the roof where she leans against the railings.

"Isn't it beautiful?" she says, smiling and stretching her hand out to get hold of one of the snowflakes.

You're more beautiful, he thinks, before saying, "Yes."

He sees her shaking suddenly and he wonders if she's cold. Then again, she's wearing a coat and a scarf wrapped tightly around her neck. When he nears her he can see traces of tears spilling from her eyes and his face becomes stern as he grabs her hand.

"The snow looks very beautiful," he admits again as the girl besides him shakes, a sob ripping through her throat.

"I'm sorry," she cries, wiping away her tears. "My mom…"

"I know," he breathes out and suddenly, she's hugging him and he back. "I know."

"I can't see the snow anymore."

"Idiot, it's because you're crying," he teases, holding her tighter, trying to calm her down.

"I know… but I really wanted to see the snow with you," she admits, another sob echoing around them.

"You can drag me to see them any day, Clare. I'm always here for you."

"Really?" She inquires, her shaking stopping.

"I promise."

A/N: I only mention in this that the reason Clare cries is because of her mom and, well, while writing it I thought, "What if her mom died during a snowy day?" So, um, yeah. That's why Clare is crying. Yup~
