A/N: I know that I should update my other stories, but this idea came to me and I couldn't resist. It's a little dark, but I thought of it while listening to "Concrete Angel" by Martina Mcbride. Hope you like it. :)
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Concrete Angel
Zoe Orimoto walked to school that morning, thinking about the hard battle she faced last night. She walks past her friends, who smile and wave. She waves back, but walks on. She looks down at her skirt and sees some dirt from yesterday's battle. She tries to brush it off, but her shoulder hurts from an injury she got last night.
She sits in class next to her fellow warriors; they all share a look of understanding. The teacher wonders where their laughter has gone. Zoe wishes she can tell how hard it is to carry the world on your shoulders. She knows it's her destiny, but she wishes that it wasn't.
She daydreams in class, of that time at the end of the night, when she can use her spirit's wings to soar. She feels so free soaring above the clouds, just the wind and her thoughts swirling around her. Of course, she always has to come back down and face her responsibilities.
At lunch, she laughs at Takuya's lame jokes, knowing that he is the only one who can make her smile anymore. Everyone notices. They assume that she just likes him. It is much more than that. He is the only one who understands her completely. He is always the one to protect her in battle, when she sees his bruises she always feels sadness.
Later that night, she is once again in battle. She attacks fiercely, never knowing when these battles will end. She also knows that when they do end her days of flying will be over. She sees that Takuya is in trouble. She quickly covers his back, attacking the enemy and saving her best friend. Unfortunately, she doesn't see the enemy coming at her until it's too late.
She falls to the ground gently. Takuya takes out his anger on the one who hurt her. Her fellow warriors surround her in their human forms. It takes her a moment to realize that she is also human. She can't feel the pain. As far as she is concerned, the last thing she felt was the wind blowing through her feathers. Her last sight is Takuya's face, filled with anger and sorrow. Zoe Orimoto closed her eyes to the world.
The warriors are in a cemetery. They are gathered around a stone with her name on it. She can see them and she wonders why her friends are crying. She wants to tell them that she doesn't regret it, that she's much happier now, but she knows that she can't. Instead, she turns her back on them. She sees the spirits, the ones who started her whole adventure. They smile at her. She knows that they will tell everyone her feelings. The weight of the world finally lifts from her shoulders and she is able to fly again.
A/N: This is my first time writing something like this, so I hope you'll comment and tell me what you think. Every kind of comment welcome. :)
