It all started with whispers in the hall.

"Did you see her?"

"Are her eyes really different?"

"Dawn told me that she was raised by wolves."

I was the girl the where talking about. I knew it from the swift glances I got as I walked in the middle of the hall. I kept my shades on, head low, hands in my pocket. Amazing how even f you work in a place full of odd things you are the most abnormal.

Twisting the combo into my locker, concentrating on the wheel hard. A figure came up behind me, I ignored it. It didn't let me for long. Whispering in my ear softly. It told me

That if I was going to stick around it had better not be for long. They slithered away. I put my head against the cool metal on the front. Closing my eyes I knew it had been a mistake coming here. This was my last day in the school.

I was not used to the new place. It was full of twists and turns; I learned to keep in one place for a long time. It was usually the Professor's library. I would read books, learning through them. It was lonely, though sometimes Abe would talk to me. That was nice. Two years later, he and I were two peas in a pod, we had read the same books and saw the same movies. I was a bout a foot and a half taller, and had grown up. I finally had the figure, Mashka and Tatiana talked about. Thinking about them was hard, it has been many years. I miss them.

In my years I have been mad with many people, Tatiana for calling me a barrel, Olga for not letting me try on her necklace, Mama for scolding me, but I have never been as mad as I am at Rasputin. It was he who faked his death, traded his soul for the power to curse me. I had always had gifts, not curses. Telepethy and a few "sixth senses" as Abe called it, and when they came about I was the in house computer genius, one of few to hack the FBI files. But immortality was a curse. It was pure luck that I had found the professor. I was not entirely accepted in the department. I was never to expect the changes that would follow the arrival of a simple man.

I was in the library, hovering above the ground, looking for my cat, Nicolas who had a habit of climbing the shelves when I wasn't looking, when he walked in. He seemed fascinated by Abe, who in turn ruffled his feathers, by asking him to turn a page. Usually this was my job, but I was preoccupied at the moment.

"W-w-w-what? " He stuttered.

"He need you turn the page, it is rather hard for him, considering he is in water and behind the glass." I said, grabbing Nicolas out of the Atlas section. He looked up startled at me. Coming down I walked over and turned the pages. "Like this…" I said explaining it in my Russian accent.

He looked bewildered, but was saved by the professor, who introduced and explained everything.

I smiled and put out my hand. "Anastasia Romanov, but you can call me Anya. Yes, I am grand duchess of Russia, no there are no more, and yes, I am the real deal."

Don't own Hellboy, or any of that. Or the Romanovs, just my version of Anya's story. And yes this is a rewrite of the movie with my char.
