Kain's always had a flair for the dramatic. Whenever he played games with the other boys, he was always the hero, the emotional one, the main character. Kain believed in winning, beating the bad guys or the robbers.

Sometimes Cecil would play too, but Cecil was never very good because he always tried to make it good for both sides, try to make it so everyone won. Cecil never really wanted to be at the center, anyway. Cecil didn't have Kain's energy for it. Kain always though he should be a politician.

Whenever Rosa managed to worm her way into the games, she tried to make it so nobody got hurt, but that turned out even worse than Cecil's attempts. She would get regulated to the damsel in distress or the medic for when their pretend swords hit too hard. She would always get huffy about it later.

Kain was always the good guy.

Cecil was the sidekick.

Rosa never quite got it.

When Kain shows up without warning one night, she still doesn't get it, doesn't get why Cecil just throws his arm around his old friend without question. But she stands back now, and realizes that this time, Cecil's won.
