This song always brings tears to my eyes, even though it's supposed to be a generally happy song. Not for me….

"Shh, Harry, it's almost bedtime," Lily cooed into her talkative son's hair, smoothing back the unruly black strands and pecking his forehead.

"He's probably wondering why the heck he can't go trick-or-treating," James decided as he stretched out on the couch, yawning widely.

"Ignore your father," Lily told Harry, "He's just wondering why he can't go trick-or-treating." She grinned when she heard James shift, knowing that he was shooting her a dirty look. He got up from the couch and stretching, moving to the kitchen as Lily picked her knees up and used them to place Harry against, moving her fingers over his smooth skin. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are grey." James reappeared at the archway, smiling and watching the scene fondly before his eyes flicked to the window behind them and he paled.

"James?" she asked, scooping Harry into her arms and looking at him worriedly as he began to move towards her.

"Lily, it's him, take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off!"

Lily shot up the staircase to Harry's nursery, where a hidden portkey was just in case. She grabbed the stuffed bear, heart sinking into her stomach when they were still in the nursery, before she scrambled for any other bears. She heard fighting, then silence, then footsteps, and her heart was hammering in her chest.

You'll never know, Dear, how much I love you.

Lily had tears streaming down her face, kissing Harry's forehead before settling him in the crib, turning around to face the pale man at the doorway. She spread her arms out to protect her son, shaking and crying, but trying to keep him safe all the same.

"Please, please, not Harry," she begged.

"Stand aside, silly girl."

"Please, not Harry, not Harry! Have mercy! Take me, kill me instead! Not Harry, kill me!"

"Avada Kedavra!"

Please don't take my sunshine away….
