Author's Note: I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist

He breathed in deeply as he reached to an engagement ring for the umpteenth time and stared at it for a few moments. He could do this. Just a simple question. Four words. How hard is it to say four words?Pretty dang hard, apparently.

He stowed the ring away, content to leave it there until the time came. He shifted he weight again. He rocked back and forth on his heels again. He finally reached up his hand, albeit tentatively, and knocked on her door. He timidly jerked his hand back and forth two times. Twice again, with a shade more vindictive. He reached his hand up again, this time with confidence, only for his hand to be met with thin air. He stumbled a bit, then regaining his composure and straightening his posture, smiled at the woman who was stifling her laugh into her hand. They exchanged pleasantries, faint smiles resting upon each face, his embarrassed, hers amused.

"I...um...I-I have s...something tosaytoyou."

The woman chuckled, which caused the man to redden even more, which caused the woman to laugh even more, and so on. The man then realized that there was nothing he could do to deter her, so he joined her. They stood there for a minute, perfectly content to never move, until the woman invited the man inside.

After they were comfortably seated, the man turned to study the woman's face, a face so young, so sweet, and with eyes much younger than him. He shouldn't do this to such an innocent lady. He shouldn't tie her down to such a old, old man. He was being selfish, too entirely selfish, but he still will ask her, he couldn't resist. He got onto one knee took a deep breath and spoke.

"Will you marry me?"

Her smile grew with every syllable, every action, every word. He finally realized she loved him. Him. He was not the monster he claimed to be. He was a kind man. So she spoke one word with such emotion, he understood he wasn't burdening her. She loved him back.

"Yes."
