002. Middles
Stuck.
I was stuck in the middle. Well, this sucks. I gritted my teeth as I attempted once more to lift my arm. And.. nothing. I was completely paralyzed. Typically I was the one saving everyone.. well not everyone, usually just James and Sirius. Somehow they always managed to get themselves into the worst of the worst. But now I was stuck WITH them. Fantastic. I heaved a great sigh and rolled my eyes. Sirius had his eyes closed, was he honestly sleeping right now? James was on the left of me, eyeing my carefully, probably trying to read my expression. There was a glint of worry in his eyes. I reassured him with a comforting, soft smile.
The death eater was staring at me, I could feel it. He (or she, not entirely sure) circled around the three of us. His (or her) black cloak fluttered around swiftly. It was dead silent, the silence was so eerie that I was sure even the death eater had to have felt uneasy. What were we waiting for anyway? Why wasn't this death eater torturing us?
CRASH!!
In a matter of milliseconds there was a brilliant flash of red light and the death eater was smashed up against the back wall, obviously not conscious any more. Remus stepped in front of the three of us and gave us a weary smile.
"One day I might not be here to save you all.. exactly what're you going to do without me?" I had felt the spell lift when Remus had attacked the death eater. I retrieved my wand, "The day you aren't with us anymore.. is the day we're all dead."
Sirius chuckled to himself, "I had it all under control, guys." James lifted an eyebrow at Sirius before James took my hand into his. Remus shook his head, "I could tell." We all laughed as we walked out of the door, and back into the living room of the strange, dark, old house. Remus in front. Sirius to my left and James on my right. And there I was... in the middle of my best friends. Stuck in the middle of this war. Stuck in the middle of everything.
I liked it that way. I like the middle.
