A/N : Prompt fill for the BSN. The theme was an Edgar Allan Poe quote : "I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity." - Inspired by another Kaidan Alenko prompt submission.
Hope you like it and don't forget to review ^^
The diamond filled sky shimmered to the weak glow of the full moon. Sleep had fallen on the Royal Palace and silence filled the dimly lit corridors. Alistair cherished these wordless moments of peace, when there was nothing but himself. Himself and his long lost memories. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the gentle wind that had made its way through the room, ruffling his blond hair. It was a perfect night, announcing a perfect tomorrow.
He suddenly felt Elizabeth's warm arms wrap around him and holding him tight. Smiling, he turned around and lovingly looked down at the one thing that had kept him going through out all of these desperate times. She raised her sparkling emerald eyes and softly, brought her pink lips to his. Their kiss was tender, patient, serene. There was no threat looming over them, no danger or menace. There was nothing but their love and they knew they had all the time in the world now.
Replacing a loose strand of her brown hair behind her ear, he brought her closer in his arms and locked his eyes into hers.
"You're so… Beautiful", he managed to whisper.
She simply smiled at him and he continued to explore with his eyes every inch of her face. A face he knew by heart, but that he had never stopped admiring. Cupping her face with his two hands, he softly ran his thumb against the scar that circled her eye on her cheek. Hideous marks from the past, she had once told him, but he had always thought it gave her such a breath-taking strength.
She ran a hand in his hair and let it trail down his back, sending shivers down his spine. Passionate desire slowly took over as he pulled her closer and pressed his mouth against hers in gentle hunger. There was no danger. No menace. They had all the time in the world now.
Feeling her bare skin against his sent a rush of ecstasy throug his body. Running a hand against her porcelain shoulder, he let himself enjoy her warmth and sweet kisses on his neck. There was nothing but their love. Nothing but this perfect night, announcing a perfect tomorrow.
He felt her mouth against his ear whispering something to him. But he couldn't make out her words. Deep inside, he didn't want to.
"I'm so sorry, Alistair…"
Her soprano voice held a melancholy he did not understand. He suddenly realized the silence of the castle had become more and more heavy. The walls of his room started to fade away as his soothed expression turned into a confused frown.
"I wish we could have had more time."
He watched Elizabeth take a step back from him, shaking her head, her beautiful emerald eyes filled with tears. He suddenly felt the wooden floor under him give in as his own perfect world disappeared.
"Your Majesty? Have you been listening to a world I've said?"
Teagan's voice made its way to his ear and the king looked up in dismay at the man standing in front of him. Finding himself sitting at a large round table where dozens of painted portraits of young women hoping to be wedded to him were scattered all around, his own voice rang in his head, like a long lost memory.
"You will be missed. More than I can possibly say."
