A/N: Hi! This is just a quick little one. I know that the sea otters holding hands video has been streaming around the web for a long time but I just recently saw it an couldn't help but write about it.
"If you think any harder you're going to give me a headache," Brooke joked while looking down at Haley who was currently snuggled into the cheerleader's side.
It was a quiet night for the couple unlike the rest of Tree Hill's population. Parties, celebrations, well general debauchery was taking place throughout Tree Hill due to the Raven's win in the North Carolina Men's Division 1 Basketball Championship. Sure the couple had been invited to all the parties but they decided that a quiet night together was the perfect kind of celebration.
After all the drama that had taken place since Haley's return to Tree Hill the last thing the girls needed was an opening for disaster. Sure Nathan had ultimately gotten over his ego and finally divorced Haley once he realized that they were both miserable after jumping into something head first without thinking of the consequences. Sure Lucas had finally stopped throwing a hissy fit because Brooke wanted Haley over him. Sure everything was finally back to normal for the teens of Tree Hill High but with high school comes drama. Haley and Brooke had dealt with their fair share of drama and now was the time for someone else's turn.
Haley's non response didn't go unnoticed by the brunette. "You know I was only teasing you right?" She whispered softly into Haley's ear. Reaching across her stomach Brooke intertwined their hands only to bring them to rest over her heart.
"Will you be my sea otter?" Haley asked out of the blue while looking hesitantly up at Brooke.
"Your sea otter?" Brooke asked with the utmost confusion.
"Yea," Haley replied sheepishly. Propping herself on her elbow she looked down at their intertwined hands and couldn't help but think back to the video that she had seen earlier that day. Finally gaining the courage to meet Brooke's gaze Haley found nothing but love and adoration, mixed with slight confusion, from her girlfriend.
"I saw this video earlier today about two sea otters at the Vancouver aquarium, I know that it's been out forever but I haven't really been on the up and up lately. But the video got me thinking. I know that the sea otters where 'holding hands' out of a practical nature for staying together when they sleep but…I don't know. It got me thinking about security and always knowing that you're not alone in this crazy world. The sea otters were able to ensure that with the simplest gesture," she paused before letting out a sigh. "And I guess…what I'm trying to say is that I want you to be my security. I want you to be the one that holds my hand at night so I know that I'm not alone in this messed up world."
Brooke couldn't resist the goofy smile that broke out across her lips at Haley's explanation. She had known that she wanted the exact same thing since her feelings for Haley had developed. The silence had obviously unnerved Haley, her fidgeting was an attest to that.
"I'll be your sea otter if you'll be mine," Brooke replied with a thousand watt smile.
Haley's response was an enthusiastic nod right before she crashed her lips with Brooke's sealing the deal.
