I might have sensed something was off by the way light pressed against my eyelids, a tangible force that made me want to shut my eyes tighter. Or by the way the surface underneath my back was too hard, less curved than the breaking down, old, worn armchair that was my mom's boyfriend's, that I had originally fallen asleep on. Or perhaps just the simple fact that I was very much not as safe as I once was, in the shoebox apartment that five people shared at the current moment.

Any one of these things, along with others, could have tipped me off. But no, it wasn't until laughter echoed, reverberating off unseen walls did my eyes snapped open, accompanied by a startled gasp.

"Hello, Miss Abigail..."

I shivered, a chilled fear crawling up my spine. Adrenaline shot through my veins, cold despite it's effects before making my muscles burn. It sent me from my original position from laying to sitting to standing in a flash. But once I achieved that, I found myself paralyzed apart from my trembling. The room I was in... It was blindingly white compared to the darkness I preferred. Hell, it was blindingly white compared to /anything/. It was simply not natural, the way the room shone. Like there were florescent light bulbs strewn throughout, only without any breaks to darkness to show where they might have been placed. There were no shadows to show the corners or edges of the room, either. As if the walls, or floor, or what have you, had no end.

"Congratulations for being chosen." I jumped at the voices, several of them, speaking together. If this place hadn't felt haunted enough. "It's been a while since I had fun like this. Shall I explain?" I felt dizzy, overwhelmed. My throat has constricted. I was in no position to formulate a response and in an even less of one to speak it. However, the unseen being/beings didn't deem one necessary and continued.

"You shall be sent to another world, where you may do as you please. I believe you will recognize it. When you arrive, the fare will already be collected. And to add to the fun, you shall take the form of something you love so dearly." I was hyperventilating at this point. I wasn't able to process a word that was being said to me. I could only stand there, my knees wobbling, threatening to collapse under me. They were slowly losing their ability to support me, their solidity weakening to the consensity of jello. "But if you like, it will wear off in a few mortal days. Now, pass through the gate and the world bridge! See you, Abigail!"

My knees finally caved in. But instead of falling to the floor, I was sent tumbling through a hole. A dark hole that marred with the brightness of this place.

My body seemed to burn as I fell and I screamed. There was a frightening sound of my bones cracking. I felt them bend and shift agonizingly just beneath my skin. It felt like a whole new definition of pain. 'Murder', 'death' seemed to fit this new experience than any other word, along with 'torture'. My mind wanted to reject this new experience, this level of pain but I couldn't escape it. I was made to endure it for what seemed to be hours. Though, unknown to me, it was only three minutes. But time seemed to slow just so I was trapped in this moment, this hell. Yes, that was the better word for it, 'Hell'. My own personal strip of Hell.

Mercifully, it ended when the back of my head encountered a solid piece of land. Though compared to my Hell, it was soft like a cushion, bringing the long awaited end to my agony. Darkness beckoned me and I embraced it lovingly, even if it meant my death. If only life and death were that kind.
