Poltergeist Girl: I 3 American McGee's Alice. Best videogame ever. Too bad Alice and the Cheshire belong to Lewis Carroll (or Mr. American McGee in this adaptation...). R&R Please!

As she sat on the edge of the river bank, Alice watched as leaves danced in the air and gently came to rest on top of the water. How she had managed to find some time to herself was a mystery.

She gripped her croquet mallot, which sat across her lap as her ears perked. Old, browned leaves were crunching and crinkling under feet as something ran towards her. The girl poised herself. Standing at the last minute, she tossed a perfectly smooth croquet ball into the air and cracked it with the mallot. It ripped through flesh and clothing, leaving electrifying results.

"Won't the Queen ever learn?" The words rolled off young Alice's tongue as she gave a small smirk.

"Ah, but is it really the Queen's guards which you need to keep an eye out for?"

A small pause came then.

"But is it really my place to question what is meant to be?"

Grin growing wider, the boney Cheshire made himself known, stepping into Alice's line of sight. "Your cocky attitude gets you everywhere."

Alice's smirk grew just a bit more. "As does yours."

Reaching out, her fingers delicately rubbed the bare flesh behing a mangled ear. Cheshire leaned into the touch only just.

"Tell me, cat--where will my journey end?"

"Look inside of your heart and you will find the answer."

"But my heart is empty," she replied, casting her emerald eyes upon the sinister grin. She faintly felt a shiver up her spine, paired with the comfort of being near the beast.

The body around the grin began to fade; tail swishing semi-violently in the process.

"...my heart is empty.. where does my journey end?" she posed answer and question once more before realizing the form disappearing beneath her touch.

"Mangy feline!" She cursed the beast for being his familiar, ruthless self.

Follow your heart

Alice stood. She paced around the river bank before stepping into a leaf.

Just as Cheshire had said, she was following her heart, which was telling her that she must have the Queen's head.
