Author's Note: This is my first attempt at writing Pansy Parkinson in any form. It's been challenging to write character's I've never written for this competition and I'm absolutely loving it! As y'all know, Pansy had a thing for Draco ;) It was fun to write her in this light, especially when we know that she'd do absolutely anything for our favorite Slytherin man.

As always, enjoy

Sound of Silence

She could already tell it was going to be the worst mistake she'd make all year. Pansy Parkinson knew that she was going to regret saying those words the moment it slipped from her lips. She hadn't known what she was doing back then, except that she was foolish enough to believe she was doing the right thing. Of course, she was wrong. There was no way that Draco Malfoy, the boy she'd loved since first year, would ever listen to her, that he'd want any help from her with the Dark Lord's task. Pansy knew what he was going around doing late at night, and she wanted so desperately to help the boy she loved, no matter the costs. So, when she finally found the courage to follow him, he saw right through her charade and became enraged. Pansy stood there, shaking.

"Are you sure?" he asked, obviously anxious at the prospect of finally solving the conundrum that was the Vanishing Cabinet. "Pansy, look me in the eye and tell me you're joking. There is a lot at stake for the both of us, and if he finds out-"

"He isn't going to find out," Pany snapped, irritated. She balled up her fists and nodded. "More than certain. My great grandmother had one, and she showed it to me. Sometimes you have to play it a lullaby. But, not any old tune."

"You think that'll fix the cabinet," he seethed, sizing her up. Draco only shook his head and laughed at her. "You must be mental, Pans. Go back to bed and keep your precious dreams."

"Please, Draco-"

"Now," he ordered with a hiss. "I've got a lot of work to do and you've only stealing time from me."

Pansy watched silently as Draco strolled away, his form retreating. It wasn't until he completely vanished that she fell to the ground and wept. She knew it had been a mistake to seek him out the moment she felt the urge, yet here she was. She should've known this is how he'd treat her- like a fervent school-girl whose fantasies sometimes clouded her reality. After a long period of weeping, Pansy stood and walked away from the spot. It wasn't until months later that Hogwarts was attacked by unknown assailants that she learned exactly what Draco was doing. He'd taken her advice and fixed the cabinet with a tune, but it wasn't the one that she'd implied. Going to him and providing guidance wasn't her biggest mistake of the year. It was believing that the boy she loved would use what she gave him for good, and not for nefarious affairs.
