Chapter 1

"Ha! You should have seen your face when you got splatted by that roller right before you got the Rainmaker to the goal!"

Renka glares at Mikmic. "It's your fault we lost, you were supposed to be watching my back."

"I was busy, forming parties." Mikmic shrugs, although her eyes gleam with mischief.

"Seriously? That's what you were doing?" Renka says, as her hands form into fists at her sides.

"Hey! Why are you two fighting again?" A voice interrupts.

Both Renka and Mikmic turn towards where the voice is, and see Calleigh and Meeka walking towards them.

"It was..nothing." Renka mutters, her fists uncurling.

Mikmic glances at Renka, then just shrugs and faces Calleigh and Meeka again.

"How are you adjusting to the surface, Meeka?" Mikmic asks her friend, her mood going from playful to serious.

"I'm doing fine, it's just a lot to take in." Meeka says quietly.

Mikmic glances at Calleigh, but Calleigh just shrugs. Renka also watches Calleigh, but the Inkling doesn't give anything away.

"I'm gonna head back to my apartment, I'll see you guys later." Meeka says quietly, then starts walking away.

Calleigh, Mikmic and Renka watch the Octoling walk away, all of their faces showing their worry.

O-O-O

"Have you found her yet?"

"No. There has been no sign."

The Octoling bares her pointed fangs, and growls in frustration.

"It's been two months. How have you not found her yet?"

The Octoling Soldier stays quiet, deciding it's better to not say anything at this point.

"Have you checked Inkopolis?" The Elite Octoling asks.

The soldier shakes her head, knowing what her leader is going to tell her.

"Then go. Search there, and if you find her, bring her back unharmed." The Octoling waves her hand, dismissing the soldier.

After the soldier leaves, the Elite Octoling slumps back in her chair. She's exhausted from the endless searching, it had been two months and there hadn't been any sign of her sister.

O-O-O

Meeka takes her room key out of her pocket, and unlocks her apartment door. She walks into her apartment, and looks around for a second. Meeka shrugs and makes her way to her room, trying to shake off the feeling that something's wrong. She sits down on the edge of her bed, and pulls out a heart locket that she's always wearing around her neck. Meeka opens it again and looks at the picture inside. The picture is of an Octoling, her hair is long, black, and blue at the tips. The Octoling's face can't really be seen, since she's wearing some goggles. Meeka sighs and closes the locket again. The locket was the only thing that she had when she woke up in the Deepsea Metro. Meeka is jolted out of her thoughts when she hears her phone ding. She takes her phone out of her jacket pocket and looks to see who messaged her.

Renka:

Hey, Meeka! Mikmic, Calleigh and myself are going to meet up to do some Salmon Run in an hour, wanna come?

Meeka:

Yeah, sure! That sounds good! I'll meet you there!

Meeka smiles, then puts her phone back into her pocket. She gets up, deciding she could probably get some Turf War in before meeting up with her friends.

O-O-O

The Octoling walks towards where her squad was waiting for her.

"Well? What did she say?" A red haired Octoling asks as she gets closer.

"We're going to be heading to Inkopolis." The first Octoling responds, her anger at having to go there clear in her voice.

The other Octoling's fall silent, and just stare at the first Octoling.

"Well? What are you waiting on? Let's go!" The first one snaps at the others.

All of the Octoling's start moving, and grabbing all of their gear.

O-O-O

Meeka feels a grin start to form on her face as she walks out of the lobby. Nobody in the matches she had done had stood a chance. She laughs, remembering how she had taken out two rollers when they had both come at her, they had been so surprised when they both got splatted.

"Hey, Meeka!" Meeka looks up, smiling even wider when she sees her friend Finley walking towards her.

"How's it going, Fin?" She asks when he gets closer.

"Pretty good actually. I finally got myself up to Rank X in Splat Zones today!"

"Really? That's great!"

Finley nods, obviously pleased with himself. Meeka opens her mouth to say something else, but stops when she sees movement by an alley. She looks back at Finley, her mood abruptly changing to seriousness.

"Finley, is there anything down that alley?"

"Erm. Well.. there's umm." Finley looks away, avoiding meeting Meeka's eyes.

"Fin, please. What's down there?"

Finley sighs, then looks up and meets Meeka's eyes. "There's a tunnel entrance down there. It's an entry that lets Octoling's into Inkopolis. It also lets them go back to Octo Canyon."

"Take me there."

"What?! No way! I can't do that, your friends would kill me if anything happened to you!"

"Please? If you don't come with me, I'll just go by myself."

Finley glares at her, "Fine, I'll take you. But, Denny is coming with us."

Meeka nods, trying to contain her excitement. "Okay!"

Finley takes out his phone and starts to call Denny. "This'll just be a moment."

Meeka nods again, then turns and looks at the square, thinking. She was finally going to be going to where she came from. She could possibly get some answers on who she was.

O-O-O

"Kaycee, Chelsea! Quit messing around! This is a serious mission! If you can't act mature for one second.." The Octoling lets her voice trail off.

"Lighten up a bit, Madison. This is our first time going to Inkopolis, have a bit more fun." The Octoling named Kaycee responds.

Madison huffs and turns away from Kaycee and Chelsea. She continues walking forward, trying to focus on her mission.

"Don't let them bother you." A red haired Octoling says, noticing that Madison was frustrated.

Madison shrugs. "It's nothing. They don't bother me. Just focus on the mission, Rose."

Rose rolls her eyes, and speeds up so she's walking in between Stella and Emmy.

"Did Madison snap at you again?" Stella asks as Rose catches up.

Rose shakes her head, "No, she just denied that Kaycee and Chelsea were annoying her."

Emmy nods in understanding, "They can certainly be annoying, but at least they're good at taking down targets when they feel like it."

Stella laughs, "Yeah, but when do they ever want to take anything down?"

Rose and Emmy both laugh at Stella's comment, but immediately quiet when they hear an annoyed hiss from Madison.

O-O-O

"Okay, I've got a Splatterscope, Splat Dualies, and a Blaster. Who wants what?"

Meeka looks at the array of weapons, then responds, "I'll take the Splat Dualies if that's alright."

Denny nods, and tosses her the Splat Dualies.

"What do you want, Finley?"

"I'll take the Blaster."

Denny tosses him the Blaster. "Great! I've got the Splatterscope! That's my best weapon!"

Denny tosses each of them an ink tank, purple for Finley, blue for Meeka, and orange for himself.

"You know where we're going?" Meeka asks Denny.

He nods, "Yup! I've never been to Octo Canyon, I'm ready though."

Meeka opens her mouth to say something else, but Finley interrupts her.

"Can we get going? I want to get back at least by tomorrow morning."

Both Denny and Meeka nod, and look at Finley expectantly.

"Follow me."

Finley sets off towards the alleyway, his hands gripping the Blaster firmly. Meeka quickly follows her friend, trying to contain her excitement. Denny jogs to catch up.

"Are all Octoling's like you?" Denny asks when he's walking beside her.

"I'm not sure. I don't even know if they look the same." Meeka shrugs, although worry starts to creep in.

"Oh, Well I'm sure if we see any, We'll get to know for sure." Denny says in a positive tone.

Meeka nods, although her hands now tremble slightly, and she grips the Splat Dualies tighter.

"We're here." Finley's voice calls out.

Meeka hurries up, and sees Finley standing beside a hole, with a steel hole cover discarded to the side.

"We're going in there?" Denny asks.

Finley nods, "You wanted to go to Octo Canyon, This is the way we get there."

Meeka and Denny both watch as Finley starts to unravel some rope, and tie one end around a post, and then drop the other end down the hole.

"Meet you guys down."

Finley then starts to lower himself down the hole using the rope. Meeka and Denny both wait until they hear a thud.

"I'll go next." Meeka says, as she straps the Splat Dualies to her back.

Denny nods, "I'll be right behind you."

Meeka grips the rope in her hands, and starts to lower herself down. She feels her feet slip on the watery walls, and she starts to slide down the rope, way faster than she intended.

"Let go! I've got you!" She hears Finley shout from the darkness.

Meeka takes a deep breath, then lets go of the rope, and falls into Finley's arms. She gives Finley a quick hug, before dropping out of his arms, and moving out of the way for Denny. Meeka takes the Splat Dualies off her back, and watches as she sees the faint outline of Denny drop into the tunnel.

"This is gonna be fun!" Denny exclaims as he takes the Splatterscope off of his back.

Finley rolls his eyes, "Let's just get going. I don't want to be in this tunnel any longer than I have to."

Finley starts to set off into the dark tunnel, not waiting to see if Meeka and Denny followed.

O-O-O

"We're going in there?"

"Yes, Chelsea. That's where we're going. It's the only tunnel that leads straight into Inkopolis." Madison says, her tone showing her annoyance.

Chelsea scowls, but doesn't say anything else. Madison smirks in satisfaction, then sets off into the dark tunnel. Her squad following close behind her.
