SP – Under The Stars

She looked at him, this creature of agility and mystery, then back at the edge of the building. Springheeled Jack smiled in reassurance and watched her take a few steps forward, slowly, towards the border, and stayed put where he was. He wanted to see her reaction where she couldn't see him looking.

Sabine's breath left her, her eyes panning the horizon. The city lights were glimmering in the twilight, the buildings stretched on for miles and miles. She looked up, and smiled when she saw the stars scattered like glitter across the sky. The pure beauty astounded her, even more so when she remembered it was Jack who showed her this in the first place.

She felt the air shift and she looked to her left, where Jack himself had joined her. His leathery feet made no sound against the granite on the floor - as silent as could be. She looked back at the view, and she felt herself give out a big, long, sigh.

"I didn't think you'd know of this kinda stuff..." Sabine breathed, not looking back at him. She looked down at the street below, and gasped quietly in fright. She wobbled and took a sudden step back, and she felt a firm hand support her back. After retrieving her balance, she looked over at Jack gratefully.

He felt his heart feel heavy when he received such a beautiful smile – from her of all people. He regrettably took his hands from her back and placed them in his coat pockets, and took a step forward, averting his eyes from her. "Been doin' this my whole life, you get used to it after a while." He smirked and looked back at her. "Quite a view, aint it?"

Sabine felt herself subconsciously smile, and her eyes drifted back to The London Eye in the distance. "Yeah, it is." She grinned, then her expression turned thoughtful. "I don't think I'd ever be able to get used to sights such as this." She exhaled slowly. "It's beautiful." She said quietly.

Jack felt himself get giddy again, automatically thinking of a mushy response about how it's beauty fades in comparison to her. Or something. As much as he wanted to, he didn't dare say it out loud – he wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good moment.

"I should take you out 'ere more often." He said casually. "Take you to a few more of the sights."

Sabine looked at him, her smile hesitant. "It sounds nice, but perhaps I'll leave it." She said, and Jack's giddy mood crumbled. She continued. "I have my life to get back to, after all."

He gulped, unsure as to what to say. He had expected her to be all over him, complimenting his handsome looks and knee-wobbling smile. A rejection was certainly something Jack had not taken into account.

"Oh, uh, sure." He stammered, as much as he tried to hide it. "W-well maybe, you'll change your mind, huh?" He tried a smile.

She looked uncertain. "Maybe." Was the only reply she gave.

Jack sighed and made his toe fiddle with a bit of granite. "I'll be on the rooftops should you need me, darlin'." He turned to leave, took a step forward...

"-Wait, Jack!" Came Sabine's cry. Before turning back around, Jack smirked. So she did care!

He spun around on his heel, his hands back in his pockets. He raised an expectant eyebrow, awaiting her memorable response.

Sabine took a step forward, her face a bit shy. "Can you get me back down, please?"

Winded, Jack did so, and when he saw Sabine leave for good, turned away grumbling. Well so much for that.
