"Can we do this somewhere else?" She asked hesitantly, her eyes moving from Stefan's hand to his face.

"What do you have in mind?" Stefan asked suspiciously, trying but failing to read the girl. She laughed at that, tilting her head to the side.

"Trust me."

"Hmm, I'm not sure..how long have I known you?" Stefan teased, making Elena laugh again. Stefan's heart leaped every time he heard her laugh; it had been so long since he'd had the privilege. And he'd always had the silly thought that maybe that particular laugh, the one he adored so much, was saved only for him. For when he made her laugh.

Elena took Stefan by the hand and walked him to the Salvatore house, a path she knew all too well. When they arrived she climbed onto the roof, and he followed- unsure but excited.

As the sun rose in Mystic Falls, Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert sat hand in hand on the roof, Elena leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Last time we were here, I had just turned, and we watched the sun set together. Even though we didn't fully know it at the time, that was the end of an era. The end of us," Elena began sadly, taking a shaky breath before continuing.

"But now, now we're watching the sun rise. This is the beginning of something, Stefan. That is, if you want it to be." Her eyes watched him with hope but also fear of rejection. She'd been gone for so long, and they'd been broken up for even longer. There was no way to be sure if he truly wanted this back.

Stefan answered her question simply. He brushed her hair back with his hand, looking at her with that look. The look reserved for Elena only. Then without further warning, Stefan leaned in and kissed Elena. It was like reigniting a burnt out flame, bringing something back to life, breathing in fresh air for the first time. It was everything.

And just like that, as if all the hurt, pain, and betrayal had never happened- they were soulmates again. He was her safe place, she was his humanity. He was her home, she was his salvation. He was the love of her life, and she was his light. He was her boy, and she was his girl. He was her Stefan, and she was his Elena.
