This is my first attemp at writing for Legend of the Seeker. It's a one-shot, Cara-centric. It takes place sometime after 'Desecrated' but before 'Eternity'.
Tell me what you think ! :)
Deciding to follow Richard Rahl on his quest to defeat the Keeper had been the turning-point.
Mord'Sith didn't care about good or evil, they only served the House of Rahl. Darken Rahl was evil and his brother was not. That was the greatest difference between the two sons of Panis Rahl. For the major part of her life she had worked on the side of evil, torturing, killing, breaking people without blinking. And then she had been sent to the future with the Seeker and everything was different.
Her master, Darken Rahl, was dead. So was the Mother Confessor. And all her Mord'Sith sisters. There was only Richard Rahl. They worked together to get back to their own time, their own world. And Darken Rahl was still dead in the end. Her sisters did not understand that Cara had done this to save them, not to betray them. They turned on her, beat her and left her for dead.
But Richard had found her, and since he was the true Lord Rahl it was her duty to protect him. So she helped him again, and this time he took the decision to keep her with them.
That was a year ago.
Now, as she kept an eye on the sleeping figures and another one on the surroundings of the camp, Cara tried to remember what it meant to be a Mord'Sith. The more time passed, the less she felt like her old self.
She had shown numerous weaknesses since she had started the journey with the Seeker, and that was not a Mord'Sith habit. Slowly but surely, mostly because –or thanks to- her companions, her humanity had been brought back to the surface and was no longer hidden in the depth of her soul.
Richard, Kahlan and Zedd had reminded her that she was human before being Mord'Sith. And emotions were part of human beings. Leo had helped her discover an entire part of herself she had never thought could exist. And when he had died, there was this tight knot in her chest that made her realize what was happening to her.
She cared. Mord'Sith did not care, but she did. Cara, the once fearless and proud weapon of Darken Rahl, instrument of evil, cared. And she did not feel ashamed in the least bit.
That's what travelling with Richard Rahl had done to her. He had given her a chance at life. That's why she would never hesitate to give this life back if it meant saving his. Why she'd die for Kahlan and Zedd too. Because they had welcomed her into their family when they had no obligation to.
Mord'Sith were different. Sometimes Cara thought she missed them, and then she looked at the Lord Rahl, the Mother Confessor and the First Wizard, and shook her head. Mord'Sith were just a parasite, a virus contaminating her body, and she was slowly getting rid of it. The sooner the better. It was only holding her back. Sure she would not forget everything she had learnt during all these years, but it would not control her anymore. She would not be defined by her leathers or Agiels anymore.
She was no longer Cara the Mord'Sith, she was Cara Mason, protector of the Lord Rahl, best known as the Seeker.
I hope you liked it !
