Forever Love

-Phone Rings-

Jason Lee Scott almost missed an important call from his best friend's mother, Mrs. Hart. As she filled him in on Kimberly's health, the more worried he got. As soon as he got off the phone he knew he had to do something. As he looked down Jason saw his old communicator, and he quickly went to speak to his mentor.

"Zordon, we need to call the ranger's in and don't forget Billy." Jason said.

"No problem." Zordon agreed.

-Billy's House-

Billy Cranston was sitting at his desk writing a letter that he wouldn't even dare send to Kimberly Hart.

Kim,

I heard this song the other day and couldn't help but to think of you. It's by Reba McEntire called 'Forever Love'.

The first time I laid my eyes on you I knew….

We'd spend this life side by side….

I still feel the same though you're so far away….

I swear that you'll always be my…. Forever Love….

I promise you… Someday we'll be together…. Forever Love.

I won't give up… no matter what….

I'll be waiting for you…. Forever Love.

Minutes and hours and years may go by….

But my heart knows nothing of time….

So don't cry, just keep me right there….

In your dreams, and hold to these words of mine.

Love is the road to our destiny….

Nothing can change what is meant to be.

Billy

As Billy was finishing folding up the letter and was putting it in his desk drawer, he heard his communicator go off.

"On my way Zordon." Billy said.

In no time at all everyone was in the Command Center wondering what the trouble was.

"May I Zordon?" Jason asks stepping up.

"Of course, Jason." Zordon nodded.

"Thank you, there's no good way to say this but, I just got a call from Kim's mom, and Kim is very sick and was rushed to the hospital this morning." Jason told them.

"WHAT!" Billy yelled.

"How bad is it?" Rocky asks.

"Bad enough that the doctors don't know how to save her." Jason grimly said.

Billy had to quickly find somewhere to sit down before he fell over. This was reminding him to much of his mother's death.

"Who cares!" Tommy growled.

"You should since at one time you did love her." Billy growled back.

"Well I don't care Billy." Tommy said.

"Cool it, you two, we got something more important to decide." Jason said breaking the fight he saw coming.

"And what's that Jase?" Tommy asked with an edge in his voice.

"If this has anything to do with Kim's ranger past, and if we want to go visit her you know she hates hospital's. I know that I'm going." Jason said.

"I'm not, Kat?" Tommy asked.

"I agree with you sweetie." Kat agreed.

Jason could tell that the rest of the team was torn about what to do, but he couldn't blame them at all. He could tell that they were going to follow Tommy's lead. So, in the end they agreed that it would better for the active rangers to stay in Angel Grove.

"I'm coming with you Jase, Kim was always there for me when I needed her the most." Billy told Jason.

Before leaving to see Kim, Billy got the feeling that he should grab Kim's communicator and power coin. Within a few minutes Billy and Jason were ready to be teleported to the Florida based hospital. When Kim's mother saw them, they each got a huge hug from her. As soon they walked into Kim's room their heart's broke seeing their best friend looking so weak. Billy quickly went to Kim's side and took her hand to let her know she wasn't alone. When Jason saw this, he got the feeling that Billy was in love with Kim. So, he guided Mrs. Hart out to take a break, and to give Billy time alone with Kim.

"Kim, its Billy, please come back to me." Billy pleaded with her.

Luckily it was just him in the room when Kim started mumbling about her ranger past. It was then that Billy decided that Kim's illness probably had to do with their connection to the morphing grid. After a little while Jason came back alone.

"How is she, Billy?" Jason asked.

"I think she maybe waking up." Billy told him. "We also need to talk to Zordon once she does wake up." Billy continued.

"Billy…" Kim whispered as she fully became awake.

"Hey Firebird." Billy smiled down at her.

"Hey Pinky." Jason said smiling.

"What do we need to do now, Billy?" Kim asked.

"Well, I do have a few ideas of what's going on, but we do need to talk to Zordon." Billy said.

"Alright." Kim agreed.

"Zordon, this is Billy, Kim, and Jason do you have a moment?" Billy asked into his communicator.

"Of course rangers, and how are you my crane?" Zordon asked.

"I'm okay Zordon." Kim smiled.

"I have a few ideas of what is going on with Kim, Zordon." Billy said taking Kim's hand again.

Over the next hour or so, they talked over Billy's thoughts on Kimberly's illness.

"How have you been feeling since retirement Kim?" Zordon asked.

"I have been getting weaker, Zordon." Kim answered.

"Are our life forces still tied to the morphing grid?" Jason asked.

"Yes." Zordon said.

"So what does this mean for Kim?" Billy asks getting worried.

"It means that Kim needs to come out of retirement." Zordon said smiling.

"But doesn't Kat have my communicator and power coin?" Kim asked.

"I don't think so Kim." Zordon said.

"If she doesn't then who does?" Kim asked getting worried.

"Who knows, what could happen if they fall into the wrong hands." Jason added.

"I don't think that's even a worry, Jase." Billy said pulling out Kimberly's morpher and power coin.

"Oh my goodness, Billy!" Kim said shocked reaching out to take them, but stopped short.

"Go ahead Kim, they belong to you, I promise they won't hurt you." Billy said putting them in her hand.

As soon as Kim closed her hand around them she felt re-energized. Both guys were surprise to see Kim being coved in a purple haze and not pink. All Billy could do was hope that Kim was going to be alright. What they didn't know was Kim's animal spirit was taking care of their friend.

But what her pink crane had to say took Kim by surprise. First, there was a beautiful phoenix that turned out to be her grown-up animal spirit. After a heartfelt goodbye, the pink crane faded away.

"You do know that you and the falcon weren't meant to be right." Shaylin the phoenix asked.

"I figured since we did break-up, do you know who I'm meant to be with then?" Kim asked.

"Yes, all you have to do is look deep within to find the answer." Shaylin said.

"Any clues?" Kim asked.

"Someone that has always stood by you, a silent strength." Shaylin answered after a moment.

Kim shut her eyes and began to wonder though a thick jungle as she thought about Shaylin's clues. She was so lost in thought that she failed to see a silver winged horse until it lightly nudged her arm. As she petted the horse, she felt drawn to this animal in a way that she never did with the falcon. Kim felt lighter than she has been in years. Knowing that her time in the jungle was drawing to a close, Kim said goodbye to the beautiful winged horse. And when she opened her eyes again she found Billy still sitting by her side.

"It's going to be alright, Billy." Kim said squeezing his hand.

"Welcome home, Kim." Billy said kissing her forehead.
