Hermione Granger was unique.

She was much smarter than an average child her age, easily outpacing her peers in all matters academic in nature.

Of course, her genius didn't extend to her physical capabilities, and in that respect, she remained perfectly normal.

But different is dangerous, in the eyes of the students of her elementary school.

Regardless of her teachers' approval, she was always ostracized by her age group, and a child hanging out with people who better suited her intelligence level would have seemed extremely abnormal.

A seven year old just doesn't engage in spirited discussions with middle school children about calculus.

But she had found magic, and she had found friends.

Which is why she was pleasantly surprised when Harry appeared out of nowhere, and convinced her to take an evening stroll with him. The two of them ambled aimlessly inside Hogwarts, chitchatting about general occurrences.

Until Harry through open a door to an abandoned classroom and ushered her in.

"SURPRISE!" A loud group of students yelled.

"Happy 16th birthday, Hermione! We never really celebrated so…"

Hermione shut him up with a tight hug and a large grin.

She had her friends, and her life was great.
