(Warning: Don't read unless you've finished reading Ch 1 & 2 of Fortunate Mishap! Spoilers!)

Okay, this was specially typed up for all you die-hard Twilight readers who by now are going, "How the heck can your OC do that?!"

Well, before you pick apart and dissect me, give me a moment to explain and justify my story and character, Vera.

Now, let's start with Vera not attacking Jacob when she wakes up in the motel.

Just before Vera was turned into a vampire, she witnessed a vampire draining the blood from a previous victim. The sight was gory and mentally scarred her. I mean, honestly people, if you saw a man rip open a woman's neck and drain her of every ounce of blood what would you do? Also you've got to keep in mind, the vampire who did this was savage and didn't care if he was messy. All he cared about was feeding. He spilled more blood than he drank.

The fact that Vera witnessed that gory account played a big part in the fact that she is utterly disgusted and repulsed by the idea that she is a vampire.

In real life, Vera strongly disliked hurting other people and seeing them get hurt. Many times she felt as if she was a burden to everyone, her presence only harming them more. She had recently run away from home due to a bad family situation, but she had no where to go. She didn't want to bother her friends, so she was basically on her own. With the realization of that fact she plunged into depression, and self harm. She was very mentally unstable at the time. Pretty soon she was driven to the point of wanting to die, so she wouldn't cause her friends anymore trouble.

Unfortunately fate ironically had other plans for her.

Due to the fact that she had such a selfless nature, killing another human was not an option for her. She would rather die herself before committing such a horrendous crime, and she almost did.

If it weren't for Jacob interfering and introducing her to the Cullens, she would have most definitely died because by the time he had found her she had already used a major amount of the blood that she had as a human.

Yes, I know newly turned vampires are supposed to be savage for several years, but that's what makes Vera different. I guess you could say that's her 'special ability'. She has immense amounts of self control, and Carlisle seems to have realized that because of the fact that she didn't attack Jacob, or the other residents at the motel, even though she was literally starving herself to death.

Also, you've got to remember this is FAN FICTION. I'm not Stephenie Meyer. Nor will I try to imitate her writing style. So if you've got a problem with the story, I'm sorry. I've done a lot of research and spent a lot of time to make this story as accurate as can be, without making it utterly boring, or seem like I'm copying something.

If you've got any other questions, or if you think I've made a mistake on something, please feel free to message me and I'll check it out.
