Prologue: A Dark Night in Gotham
A teenage Harleen Quinzel better known as Harley was sitting on the edge of a building in between two gargoyles on a rooftop with a childlike wonder on her face. Her legs were dangling off the side of the building as she was absentmindedly fiddling with an expensive looking knife with a fancy Q engraved on the hilt. Harley was wearing a long black trench coat she stolen. She was waiting for someone to appear. She heard a distant siren wailing in the distance and she was slightly curious what was happening but did not move. She heard slight movement so quickly stashed the knife into her pocket. Her face lit up with a childlike smile. She said in warm childlike voice, "Selina" as she turned her head to the side to see the pretty Selina Kyle next to her.
"Harleen I told you before, don't sit on the edge of the building. You could fall" Selina said concerned and pulling Harley away from the edge.
"Sorry" Harley replied not really meaning it.
Selina then enquired "What are you doing here?" as she was confused at why Harley was sitting on the roof.
"Waiting for you" was Harley's reply.
"So why were you waiting for me?" Selina asked
"I missed you" Harley said staring at Selina with an unblinking look of adoration. Selina smiled at Harley's innocent comment and adoration. She motioned to the girl she had took under her wing as she believed Harley is too childlike to survive on her own for too long.
Selina said "I meet you back at the safe house ok". She then kissing Harley on the forehead. Harley closed her eyes and leaned into it. Selina promised Harley "I will be back soon" as she pulled away. Selina waved goodbye before dropping down onto the streets. Harley not wanting to go back alone followed Selina down on the street. Harley watches Selina with her complete focus. It was a complete miracle that she did not crash into anyone or anything. Harley watched as Selina walked behind a woman carrying a paper sack of groceries, opens a switchblade knife, and cuts open the sack. When the groceries spill out, Selina quietly one of her bottles of milk that drops out and walks away. Selinacontinued down the street and Harley follows.Harley sees her brush against a man.
"What? I think she... got my wallet" said the man noticing it. He chased after Selina making Harley's blood boil and eyes darken. If he touched her Selina, then she will hurt him painfully. "Hey, stop! Stop her!" He called out as he chased her. Harley felt relief when Selina escaped the manby jumping onto a nearby fire escape and climbing up. Harley went up to the man.
She said in a dark voice "Forget about your wallet" The glint of her knife made the man back off. He quickly walked away not wanting to endanger himself over his wallet. Harley followed where Selina went, an alleyway on the other side of the roof. She climbed down and saw Selina giving some a milk to an alley cat.She called out in her normal childlike voice "Selina" make Selina jump.
Selina frowned and said "Harleen, I told I meet you back at the safe house"
"But I wanted to stay with you" Harley said with teary eyes "and when that mean man chased you, I was worried for you"
"Come here" Selina said softy. Harley came over and Selina embrace Harley. "I had everything handled" They hear the faint sound of laughter. Selina pulled Harley up the fire escape to keep out of sight of whoever was coming down.
A female voice "Oh, come on, Tom. It wasn't that bad" as three figures come into view. The female, Tom and a boy.
Tom said back "Oh, no? Childish drivel" All the while they were all laughing.
The female then said when they had stopped "The acting was fine; the music was lovely" She then asked the boy "What about you, Bruce?"
Bruce said "Sorry, Mom, I agree with Dad. It was kinda lame."
Tom said to Bruce "Kinda lame? There's no such word as kinda. It was totally lame."
"Yeah" Bruce agreed.
"You two, so judgment..." the female started to say when a masked man with a gun interrupts them with "What's up, folks?" All three of them gasp. Selina and Harley watched on from their hiding spot. Selina hoped nothing with happen as she did not want innocent people to die nor for sweet Harley to see it.
Tom said, "Stay calm, Bruce." as he saw that Bruce looked worried.
"Give me your money!" The masked man demanded.
Tom said, "No problem" not caring for the loss of money. He said, "We're cooperating" as he handed the masked man the money he had on him.
The masked man then demanded "The necklace."
Tom whispered to Bruce "It's okay" as the female took her necklace off. The masked man tried to grab them but broke it. The necklace went all over the floor. Selina watched in horror in the masked man shot Tom and then the female. She did not notice Harley was staring at the scene in morbid fascination. They watched as the masked man pointed his gun at Bruce. Selina hoped that he would not be killed as well. The man thought about it but in the end, he just fled. Selina watched the boy grieve over what she assumed was his dead parents. Selina pulled Haley in close to comfort herself at what she saw. Selina could not bear to stay there so quietly left the scene with Harley in tow. Selina had a feeling this was the start of something bad.
