Heroes of war
The war is over!!! Its all we could do to contain ourselves. We could return to our lives and try to forget all the horrors we have seen and done.
But forgetting was the very thing that would lead to the next war. We forgot the terrible price of intolerance, so the horrors would return ten fold.
At the end of the last war. Both governments decided to recognize the contributions we made to restoring the peace and held us up high as "champions of humanity". They declared us heroes. And forgave all of our past "misunderstandings" as they put it.
Yet they failed to understand who the real heroes were. Oh yes the "thank you" was gratifying to hear. But it was the people, both living and those who have perished over the years who where the real heroes.
Those who are now gone and those who suffer the loss of losing the ones they loved. No one was spared this anguish. It was the single defining thing that all people could clearly see they had in common. It united humanity in a way no one had thought possible.
The stagnations that had long held us all back where cast away, we all together were finally able to step forward hand in hand as one, with one single goal in mind. That goal was simply the bettering of humanity, a hefty goal but one worth striving for.
So as we fade in to the back drop of humanity to live our lives once again among the very people we tried to help and kill. We take comfort in the knowledge that we brought this world of ours to new beginning. The world can comfort in the fact we will be ever vigilant to ensure we stay on this new course, and remain forever ready to once again rise up and right the wrongs of humanity, through any means necessary.
