Author's Note- Hello everyone! So there isn't much to say about this story, other than its my first Skyrim fan fiction; it's a short story about an encounter between the Dragonborn and an unlucky beggar, inspired by my one of my own Skyrim experiences. Hope you enjoy it!

The bandit walked through the cave where his clan made their home. They had been here for two months, with little success as to obtaining any profit. A few unlucky explorers had ventured into their cave searching for any hidden treasure, but had only found the bandits which had quickly ended their adventure.

He hadn't particularly liked being a bandit, but he had to get money somehow to pay for his family. He had traveled from hold to hold, starting in their home of Dragon Bridge and finishing at Riften, attempting to join the Thieves Guild, but no luck. Finally he had heard rumors of a bandit clan which was taking new members, if you proved strong enough. When he had found them, he had been forced to fight for his life if he wanted to join. He hadn't had much experience fighting, save for a few animals he had run across on the road and a few people that had attacked him. He had barely survived, and had still gotten out with a broken arm and a few severe cuts on his upper body.

It wasn't the high price he had paid to get where he was, or the lack of success that bothered him, it was the nature of the work. Killing innocent people and robbing their dead bodies? This wasn't what he had pictured doing for a living. Surely his father would be disappointed in him if he knew what his son was doing.

A sound from behind him stopped his train of thought. It sounded like footsteps. He drew war axe from his belt. "Is someone there?" He looked behind him, eyes scouring the passageway. He couldn't see anything. Reluctantly, eyes still glancing at the entranced, he sheathed his weapon. "I guess it was just my imagina-"and he saw a flash of light and a wave of heat washed over him, and his world went dark.

The Dragonborn looked down at the slightly burnt body of the bandit, stopped by a detail, but he couldn't quite place what it was. There, on his finger, a small silver ring, glowing slightly that his experienced eye to be enchanted, and even from here he could feel the rejuvenating effect of the Restoration enchantment. A Bond of Matrimony. This man was married. After pinpointing the source of his attention, he contemplated the ramification of what he had just done. He had killed a man he hadn't even known the name of, a man that had a family no less. Would there be sorrow elsewhere in Skyrim resulting from his act?

He mentally shook his head. Married or not, this man was a bandit, someone who killed and stole, someone who profited from others misery. Safe with this knowledge, the Dovahkiin continued forward with his quest.

The bandit groaned. What had happened? He smelled the burned flesh, muddled mind taking a long time to realize it belonged to him. Desperation crept into him, fueling his arms into crawling forward. He had to get out of here. He had to get back to his family, no matter what the cost.

He had to.
