Disclaimer; All I own is the butterfly, and my imagination. Estel and Glorfindel belong to J.R...

Estel watched, mesmerized, as the butterfly broke out of it's cocoon, and spread it's wings so as to dry them.
Glorfindel who was sitting next to Estel watched the wonder on his face.
"Glorfy," Estel started, "How is it a butterfly? When it was a caterpillar before?"
Glorfindel considered Estel's question before answering, "No one really know, it is just how Valar made this creature. It is wonderful is it not?"
"Yes..." Estel replied. "Will I grow up to be an elf?"
"I'm sorry Estel, but you are mortal, and will always be mortal. Why did you think you would become an elf?"
"Well... There are no young elfs, and here there seems to only be grown ups. Where are the children?"
"For elves it takes a long time to grow up, so they can seem to be very old, but are really young," Glorfindel replied.
"So I won't sleep for a while in a cocoon and come out an elf?" Estel said sadly.
"No, I'm sorry."
"It's okay Glorfy," Estel said sleepily as he rested against Glorfindel. "I love you."
"I love you too tithen-pen," Glorfindel murmured to the now sleeping child. "I love you too."
