A/N WeeChesters from musings based vaguely on Sam's comment about John always saying things were temporary in 6.02 but no real spoilers.

"I know it's rough but it's temporary," Sam was eight.
At nine, John hands Sam a .45 "Here, so you protect yourself. Don't worry hunting is temporary, only until we find your mother's killer after that we'll quit hunting."
At ten, "My own shotgun?" asks Sam.
"Yes, Dean will show you the basics. Don't worry we'll find it soon."
At eleven, a Bowie knife.
At twelve, bow and arrows.
At fourteen Sam knew hunting wasn't temporary. Living rough, being in danger, and moving often would be his only family life.
His life, empty promises of temporary.
