Take me out to sea. I asked my mommy "When will my daddy be home?" Looking at the horizon as always, she said,"He is on a deck swaying from side to side, with a bottle of rum in his hand." She said with a smirk, looking at the floor. "But, why haven't I seen him?" I said tugging away at her dresses.
She sighed, "You have, he is on the sea, he is on your every dream." Complete silence flooded the room and I heard the waves crashing "Is he dead?" She looked away and went to bed. I wish he would be here at least someone would listen. Her eyes tired from keeping an eye out to see if he would come could not stay open and she dozed off. I stayed up looking out the window open and the cold breeze of the sea would take me to where he was
I imagined him drunk on a street corner that I would touch his arm; he would awake, see me, drop the bottle at his side and let the rum spill out, and he wouldn't care.
That with one try he would lift me off the floor and carry me in his arms, humming a song just for me, it would be different every time because he would make them up when he sang to me.
His hair was long black and thick, just like my mother said. He smelled of alcohol, sea water and sweat not like my mother remembers. She said he smelled of sand and patchouli. Her Jack was the one she met in a dessert land in a tent next to dozens of women laughing next to him, but only with eyes for her. I would rest my head on his shoulder, and let the smell of damp hair and clothes mixed with sweat and sea water be my only oxygen… On the deck of the Black Pearl we were. We walked hand in hand got to his chambers where a bed awaited. He laid me there, his beautiful dark eyes pierced through me looking at me very soul. He smiled and kissed my forehead.
"Daddy, say the blessing." I pleaded before he left the chambers. He kissed my hand tiny inside his with a cloth wrapped around it, "May God blesses and save you from Davy Jones and all that's evil in the high seas. Direct you to the best of places where you would enjoy an eternal paradise here on earth" I sat up and hugged him trying to wrap him around my small arms, to keep him with me, teary eyed I replied, "You too..." Amen.
